alfbailey 3 Posted May 27, 2013 Glad you enjoyed this one Lynne, I have photographed it before and last time I placed the bridge left of centre with a view straight across it, but I never liked it. Standing to either side of the bridge doesn't seem to do it justice either. BUt its great to get feedback on the subject it gives me idea's for next time! Many Thanks & Best Regards Alf Link to comment
trisha jean-angela 5 Posted May 27, 2013 I know I already commented on this photo, but after reading so many other viewpoints on this image I just had to tell you that the bridge being centered doesn't bother me at all - it just gives me the feeling that I could walk right into your scene... and then maybe magically (like in the Wizard of Oz), it would turn into color! :)Have a good one Alf! :) Link to comment

joseph_eiche 1 Posted May 27, 2013 Hi Alf, Great shot. What was the lighting like it seems a bit HDRish to me. Did you layer the shot in photoshop or did you just get good enough light to keep the contrast low enough to get good detail? Link to comment
newland 0 Posted May 27, 2013 Great uses of tone control Alf, yes more foreground would have been nice, but sill a lovely image never the less... regards Grant. Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted May 29, 2013 Thank You! That is exactly how I wanted the viewer to feel. : - ) But I am one of the ones that will always examine a central composition myself and ask if it works, so I'm not at all surprised that others do so when viewing this.Of course now you have mentioned "magic" and the "Wonderful Wizard of Oz" I'm really going to have to let you see the colour version : - )Cheers Trisha! alfbailey 3 Posted May 29, 2013 Many Thanks for your encouraging feedback, much appreciated! Best Regards Alf JOE Good to hear from you, I hope you are keeping well! The lighting was a bit flat, it was about 7.00 am cold and cloudy, so that had some bearing on the results. But I think the processing really brought a lot of detail out of the shadows. I used B & W software ( Nik Silver Efex Pro 2) So a combination of things really. You can see the colour version on the link above. I did boost the contrast a little bit for it. Many Thanks Joe! Best Regards Alf GRANT I think if the foreground had been interesting, like the track on the other side of the bridge, then I would have included more, but as it is (a large flat area of tarmac)Sincere Thanks for your thoughts and observations Grant! thadley 15 Posted May 30, 2013 A beautiful scene, nicely composed and a very appealing black and white conversion. I took a peak of the color version, I was seduced and gave in to its charms. But then, it does not mean that the color version is 'better' it is just that I have a weakness. PS I am going to guess that you have a portrait mode shot because that would have been my first instinct with this scene. Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted May 30, 2013 Sincere Thanks for your thoughts and observations, much appreciated! I did take a couple of shots in portrait orientation, but not from the bridge. Though I can immediately see why you would suggest that, and I'm now trying to come up with a reason why I didn't. The only thing I can think of was that I was so keen to get to the lake whilst it was calm that I kind of rushed things at the bridge and only actually the one image. To get to the lake I only had to walk down a path some 750 yards to the left of the bridge, which then had views of the same mountains and house but with the addition of reflections etc.I have a huge backlog of images that I have intended to post, but I probably won't due to time constraints. But I will ensure I include one image at least from across the lake........oh and I'll make sure its colour too : - ) Cheers Tony! Alf ALBERTO Good to hear from you and thank you for your kind words.
