I'm hoping to convey how my youngest son looks up to his big brother in a series of photos.  Im an absolute beginner at photography and hope to learn from what I did wrong. Thanks for the help.

The colors are nice and you successfully framed the boys, highlighting their relationship. I like the way the younger boy looks over at the older, but the older's profile is getting a bit lost in the backlighting, especially around his eye, so his face looks a tad distorted.

You mention conveying (rather than documenting), which takes a personal twist, it means something coming from you in addition to observation. I'd consider perspective in doing that, your perspective as photographer or the camera's perspective as picture-maker. How would this photo differ, for example, if you were closer to that angled door and using it as a leading line to the boys? Also, consider how the verticals are working (or not) in this photo. The two at the edges of the frame are askew and the one in the middle is pretty parallel. What angle of shooting could make those relationships more dynamic? Also, consider gesture. Hands, body language are very expressive and "convey" a lot. Notice how well the hand "speaks" in THIS photo you've made!

Gosh, this really could be a picture of me and one of my cousins fifty or sixty years ago.  Thank you for this imaginary (for me) glimpse back in time.
