jerrymat 5 Posted April 2, 2013 Jukka, There is an old time-worn suggestion for cropping profile portraits. Since the subject is looking to the side, make the space they are looking through longer than the space behind their head. When I was in college, working for the old man who was the campus photographer, he said to me "leave the eyes room to look through!"Regards,Jerry Link to comment
JohnWebster 3 Posted April 3, 2013 I believe the subject placement is okay because if a bit were cropped off the bottom her eyes would be close to the rule of thirds--and her eyes are about 1/3 down from the top of the frame. The hair light is too strong and washes out hair detail. Blonds need a softer hair light than brunettes and at a lower power setting. The main light is a bit too high so that the nose shadow runs into her lip and her left eye does not receive enough light. You are so very close to having a technically good classical 2/3 view of her face portrait. She is a great subject and I hope you get a chance to photograph her again. Good luck and keep at it.
