I'd love an honest critique. What could be improved? What would

you have done differently and why?

There are no wirong answers.

As Dale says, the feet are important........... and the negative space above her head would be even'd out............

For me, her pose seems contrived...... un-natural. She gives off an air of indifference or lack of interest....... no warmth. This could be exacerbated by the angle of capture, as you appear to have shot this from below her waist, upwards.

Oh, I'm not a lover of Tats, but I try for an open mind.

Regards

I remember seeing a slightly more risque photo from this session, in the Nikon forum Wednesday photo thread this year.  This photo works fine as-is for me, despite some potential nitpicking over departures from classical portraiture, precisely because it is a departure from classical portraiture.

The elements of classical portraiture are there, including the soft, even lighting on the elegantly dressed subject, against a moody backdrop of a somber sky and dark hills.  Yet the classical elements are offset by the tousled hair, tattoos, ashtray with cigarettes and lighter, and careless pose.  It all strikes me as a deliberate offhand nod toward the elements of classical portraiture, within a contemporary context, without being jokey or a parody.  Personally, I wouldn't change a thing.
