GAIL

It is Buttermere and yes indeed one of my favourite haunts! Very well observed Gail. I love this place and the little white building just draws me like a magnet.

On this occasion though, I ventured all the way around the lake to the opposite side to take this shot.  It mean't that I could get that much closer to the subject and include more detail.........well there would have been more if there hadn't been the thick fog! : - ) But even so I was quite pleased with the results.

As for the technical bits, I have gleaned a lot of information from Mike Palermiti, which I put into practice when shooting.  I can't follow his advice to the letter all of the time, as conditions dictate otherwise, but where I can and have the results have been very satifactory. That guy is an absolute mine of technical information which he shares so freely!

I did have a wonderful day Gail, couldn't have asked for better, a whole foggy day in an area that I love....ahhh bliss!

Sincere Thanks for your thoughts and kind words Gail.

HAMID

Many Thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback, much appreciated!

I agree the pano type crops do work very well for this type of landscape, but on this occasion it resulted directly from the thick mist, as there was  very little of interest being revealed above or below as a consequence. The only composition available being the opening between. I will post an image quite soon where the gap in the mist is more apparent, and I think you will see what I mean.

Cheers Hamid!

BELA

Sincere Thanks for your interest and very encouraging feedback.

It was quite a special day, the fog stayed around for long periods, and I got the kind of moody images that I like.

Sometimes I just get lucky!

Kind Regards

Nice composed and worked, indeed in such weather conditions each moment can be very different,I like how mist and trees, reflection create the mood of this composition.

Thank you so much for your interest and thoughtful feedback.

The fog was like a conducter of the light, and changed throughout the day as the thickness of the fog and the strength of the sun varied.

I was very fortunate as the conditions were ideal for capturing the quiet calmness.

Best Regards

Lovely work indeed, Alf. I really appreciate the subtlety & harmony of tones here. The equally divided (balanced) composition of setting & reflections seems very smooth and easy on the eye. I can see you're enjoying your new camera already to the fullest :-)

It was one of those days when there was no "bad" light, nothing harsh or brash, all was smooth and silent and, dare I say effortless! ...........Well apart from the 200 mile drive and the hike around the lake : - )

I'm loving the camera, its challenging in some respects, but very rewarding in others!

Sincere Thanks & Best Regards

Love the title of a really terrific image.  Simple, mysterious and profound. A reflective image of the beauty that surrounds us enveloped in a mist that limits it's vision.  You caught this one just right. Thanks for your recent comment. Your personal application, not being a fisherman myself, added something to the image I had not indended but appreciate. Love your work, take care, rek.

yes yes yes. english lessons from a land of language assassins. no apostrophe there.

also, i think you've gone too far with this one. just can't make up my mind, it seems. best, j

Many Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed this one. It was one of the few clear glimpses of the little house that presented itself. The rest of the time the haze was almost impenetrable. That platform image of yours definitely struck a chord with me!

Cheers Richard!

JAMIE

English lessons as well as photography lessons, how very kind : - )

I probably did go "too far"  I suppose a 200 mile drive is a long way, and the walk round the lake was quite a hike too : - )

As for processing .........apart from cropping top and bottom and a tiny bit of sharpening there was none.

Cheers Jamie!

you know. brighter. it looks like an excessively thoughtful greeting card to me. i think a bit of acerbic light could temper the stodgy schmaltz. j

There was light.......somewhere hidden behind a thick blanket of fog.

What we want and what we get are two different things : - )

As for the "greeting card" comment, I'll take that as a compliment, they are after all very "thoughtful" and chosen for their aesthetic appeal to the majority.

Hi Alf

Wow!... I love this image....viewed large it really comes into its own!.... The composition is spot on..... The foggy atmosphere...the reflections of the stark trees on the still water....the rolling hills just visible through the fog creating such ambience...... Breathaking image !!.... Very well done Alf!.......

I don't want to appear rude but I'm finding myself disagreeing with Jamie again ( as I'm sure others are too ) ....... I am beginning to doubt his eyesight lol..... and his technical and photographic ability to be making the comments that he has (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong Jamie :) ) ...... especially after viewing his images..... IMO there is no comparison ....  but....that is just my opinion :) .... another saying springs to mind...if you have nothing nice to say...then say nothing :)

Keep them coming Alf...... superb images!

warmest regards

Jacqueline

Sincere Thanks for your interest and encouraging feedback, much appreciated!

Its good to read that the foggy atmosphere is to your liking and not too stodgy!

The idea was to present the images with as little modifications as possible, not only to convey the natural state of the scene, but also to illustrate and test for myself the capabilities of the new camera.

I guess we all see things in different ways, just as well really, or PN would be inundated with excessively thoughtful greetings cards : - )

Warm Regards

Wonderful scene, so well captured, your patience paid off there, just the right amount of mist! Great lighting and beautiful reflection of the trees in the lake. Its a 7 for me. Excellent work Alf

Sincere Thanks for your observations and thoughtful feedback!

It was all a bit experimental as it was the first time out with the new camera, but I got lucky with the mist as it stayed around for most of the day.

Best Regards
