Urban landscape... Not an easy subject at all, especially in the

morning following the heaviest snowfall of the year. My feet were

sinking deep up to the knee because the sidewalks were not even

touched yet... The moment I stepped off the sidewalk I was reported

to the Police and a few minutes later I had to face a Police officer (a

very nice and polite young man, mind you) and explain to him that I

didn't walk on the high way, I was crossing the road that had no

lights or marked crossroad anyways.... Luckily, he wished me good

luck... Thank you for your comments.

Brave girl! And well done for wrestling with the elements to get this shot, it is really well seen and executed! A stunning scene and a great perspective. I guess what I am going to suggest will be half expected, but I must say it anyway..........crop the buildings at the top : - )  that way the image is transformed into a winter wonderland devoid of mans influence. Of course the original as you have photographed it has great merit as a contrast, one world of man made order co-exists in close proximity to the world of nature, but I prefer to forget about man made things that don't sympathise with thier surroundings.

Love the colours of the tree tops and the ribbons of ice at the edges of the stream.

Very well done Tamara!

Warm Regards

HI, Alf! I am really really happy with your comment! What really makes me feel good, that I had the same thought about cropping the top. Tried and liked it very much because of the same things you have mentioned! That makes me hope that I am not hopeless! :). I uploaded this one only because I had in mind the urban landscape.... Thank you very very much. Best regards! Tamra

Ps How do you feel? As for me, I am going to a warmer place tomorrow - to Florida - to visit my daughter...

Thank You for asking!

I'm feeling good now, even though I just had another cold, its nothing compared to the former illness and really I'm feeling good. I got out at the weekend to test my new D800 and I'm very pleased with it. (I will be posting first shots this weekend sometime)

Hope you have a great time in Florida! It will give you time to errm "Thaw out" I was going to say "chill out" but that would have made even less sense than usual : - )

Warm Regards

Alf

Tamara,  You have your just reward with this image.  It was worth all the risk.  Well captured - I understand Alf's suggestion to crop the buildings out.  You might want to keep this version as well as Alf's suggested one. If you do keep this one, I'd clone out that rectangular building on the left.  Might you want to increase the vibrance or saturation on the trees to deepen the orange color?  I also reduced the exposure on the sky.  Congratulations on an excellent image.  Larry

Hi Tamara,

First it was nice to speak with you when you did come to Florida. It is not very often that I get to speak with PN friends.

This is a lovely scene , capturing the essence of the cold Winter. Nature remains beautiful, even when the cold weather arrives.

My suggestion is that whenever you employ a quality wide angle lens , that you keep the f-stop between a wide open setting and F/5.6. More definition will result. The DOF range is inherently good with a short focal length lens, so large f-stops offer no advantage either.

Your camera has enough adjustments in the ISO and shutter speed setting to manage the exposure level without having to use a large f-stop number.

Best Regards, Mike

Hello Tamara.

A very good image. Your courage was rewarded. The buildings belongs to this image. I would keep them, but as the alternativ shown by the gentleman who commented it, too.

Hope everything is ok. And cu.

Kind regards

Bela Dick.

I do like this one Tamara, and question? IS this the Don River??? I recall when you would have taken this and am surprised re the Police!! But I guess they were looking out for everyone (Safety, etc.)

Yes! it is Don River, Gail! Half of my pictures you know were taken there! I call this place "my garden". Happy Woman's Day, dear! Hugs, Tamara
