Good observations and conclusions Jim. It would indeed be a ubiquitous shot without the presence of the boathouse.  But by the same token the boathouse may look bland and characterless without its surroundings and reflections.  The balance is a fine one between interesting and dominating, but I take on board your observations and suggestions.  I believe is could lose some of the space to left and maybe from above too to keep its format.

I have another version of this with a lot more water in the foreground and consequently a lot more reflection of the sky, the proportions of the boathouse in relation to the overall photo is smaller, but it still draws the eye.

Sincere Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions Jim.

Best Regards

I really like this image as presented. There is a lovely balance about it. I find the boathouse and surroundings to be of great interest. The lake and mountains are a plus that completes this very calming image for me. Like many of your 'destinations' it is a spot that is so picturesque and one that I would find myself drawn to during whatever seasons made it accessible. It would be really interesting to see this spot in the Spring or Summer when the trees and wildflowers are just budding or even in full bloom. I think it would be cool to make a comparison. Kind of selfish on my part, just so curious what it would be like to see this little 'bit of heaven' at other times of the year. Lovely work Alf.

Very well captured and a beautiful scene with superb light. Not much more to add that has not already been said.

Many Thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback, much appreciated!

This place transforms all the time with the light, but never is it better than at dawn.  It took me about 8 visits to this spot to come away with a few shots that I like. I have been here ar dawn on numerous occasisons only to find the water wind rippled and not looking quite as I wanted it.  It is very beautiful of course in all kinds of conditions and seasons as you describe, and If I get the opportunity I would love to be able post another image from the spring or summer for you to peruse.

Thanks again Gail!

A beautiful, tranquil, scene Alf! Lovely light on the hills, and a touch left over for the boathouse.

All the best,
Neil

Many Thanks for your interest and positive feedback.

Of all the times I have visited this location, this has been the only time when decent light and calm water has coincided. Needless to say I took full advantage while it lasted, which incidentally wasn't very long : - )

Another of your fine images that always impart to me a feeling of quietness & relaxation.Viewing your image you think of the black clouds slowly disappearing to reveal the sun warming the mountain thinking it's going to be a nice sunny day .There is a little mystery which I am sure you will have the answer.assuming I am facing west I see the sun on the mountain & also lighting up the the small patch of ground this side if the boathouse, but not falling on the hill past the boathouse? As an aside, studying your fine images have the feeling that this is a remote & rather isolated area, a place to sit & reflect.Heck, you receive B.D present every day, lucky you.Very Best Regards-Ross

Many Thanks for your thoughtful consideration and positive feedback!

Interesting observations regarding the sun and its direction etc. The simple answer is that the mountains to the left rise quite sharply and the sun had not yet risen above that point. Whereas where the mountain ridge dips the sun is higher consequently lighting the distant mountain.

It is a very quiet area and particularly so at that time in the morning, but the promise of a fine day proved to be a false one, the biting cold wind started to blow not very long after this shot was taken.

Cheers Ross!

Many Thanks for your interest and thoughtful feedback.

As usual, a visit at that magic hour of dawn yields results.  After these first few shots, I don't think I got another decent photo all day.

Cheers Volker!
