One of my Son's girl-mates popped in for a visit and I shot a series of images... as she was. A late afternoon shoot in subdued natural lighting.

Comments always welcome...................

Hi Grayham,

Very nice results. I like portraits taken in natural lighting.

Technically spot on at F/2.8. Using the zoom at 130 mm allows more working distance that does not crowd the subject. I know some professional models that prefer not having a camera/lens too close to them during a session, too.

Some might suggest that the eyes have picked up bright reflections that should be removed, but that is not an issue with me.

Best Regards my friend, Mike

Hi Grayham.  Lovely bird...  The eyes  are striking and well captured.  The soft light is  beautiful.

I'm seeing what seems to be some sort of artifacts. They appear as brighter pink blotches which I first thought might just be makeup powder but seeing it on the upper part of the neck makes me think that it is some sort of processing effect.

The image also looks striking when cropped to about an eyeball diameter  above her left eye or just above the hair line.  That or  include the top of her head?

Cute kid,

Wow!..... how have I missed three of my favourite PN friends?

Mike: Thanks for your sound comments.......... I meant to add another note advising that I had re-addressed this image in PS to try for a better skin tone..... hence my re-post...... never mind.

Gail: Yes I'm working towards portrature again..... a have a 35-105mm lens on its way to help me (smiles) and my couple of models are still keen....... so what the heck.

Steve: Yes, you would be correct in terms of artifacts..... I spotted some after the upload (which I hadn't seen during processing)..... PS is still a foreign language, but I'm working on it..........

Thanks to all of you for your support here...................

Talk soon

This is a very impressive portrait work with sharp eyes and I like the natural lighting too.  Best regards

I trust you are keeping well my friend!

I have been studying the latest three postings for some time, and this one for me is the most striking.

I have been reluctant to comment, purely because I usually like to contribute some positive suggestions, and being a complete novice at portraiture myself I hardly feel qualified.............but having said all that here goes : - )

I like Steve's suggestion of a crop, though I would allow a bit more forehead space.

There is a small shadow that just doesn't look quite right, just to left of centre of her nose, which I would try and clone out if possible.

The detail and sharpness are very well defined and the focus is right where it needs to be particularly the eyes.

I read with interest Mikes comments relating to the F2.8 aperture, and I have to say I agree, it does pay dividends in terms of image quality.

(I had never used F2.8 for landscapes before reading his posts relating to lens and image optimisation and wide open apertures, but have since and for the most part with great success.)

There is an issue with the skin, and I don't think its insurmountable as there are several dedicated skin tone and portrait plug ins for PS and stand alone programmes that will tackle these issues.

I think this image has really got great potential.

I would be very interested in seeing an edited future version with maybe some of the suggestions applied from the above respected photographers?

Take Care Grayham.

Alf

Yes, I am very well my Friend (just been a lazy correspondent)....... for a man of few words, you've done well here(smiles).

Thanks Alf..... I hear where all of you are coming from, and I will have another go at this image and try an incorporate your various suggestions.

A "behind-the-scenes" comment here is that you should have seen the original........ this young lady just popped in to say hi..... no make up, pimples and all...... it was her flashing eyes that captivated me. So the easy part are the eyes....... the rest is the challenge(smiles).

I'll Pmail you guys when I've posted the new one........ thanks for the interest

Best....
