sarah_mcnulty 5 Posted January 16, 2013 Hi Alf. Wonderful B/W work as usual. Really like the tones in the shifting sand giving the image a sense of movement.Excellent work. Best wishes. Sarah. Link to comment
tamaramar 0 Posted January 17, 2013 Hi, Alf, I just can join all these comments - beautiful image and great info about it, as always. As for B&W obsession - it is contageous I am afraid, and I am catching it too. In case of landscape it adds more drama sometimes too.... Warm regards, Tamara Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted January 17, 2013 Many Thanks for your thoughts and kind words, much appreciated! Best Regards Alf MEHMET Many Thanks for your interest, and I'm really pleased you like it! Best Regards Alf SARAH If it wasn't for the stinging in my eyes and the grit in my mouth the whole experience would have been somewhat surreal. I'm really pleased you like this one and thank you so much for your kind words and positive feedback! Best Regards Alf TAMARA I completely agree with your analogy of B & W adding drama, mood and atmosphere to a scene, and yes it certainly seems to be contagious : - ) The software I am using is superb, if you get a chance, you should try it!Good to hear from you as always Tamara, and sincere thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback. michaellinder 16,612 Posted January 17, 2013 Your title says it all. The castle and the land on which it is situated definitely have the appearance of floating on air. I suspect this is mostly the result of your perspective.Well done!!michael Link to comment
Not Here 93 Posted January 18, 2013 I'm late to the party but what a striking image. I'm immediately mesmerized by the sense of mystery and the feeling that the flowing motion is really the sands of time passing this very ancient place. Excellent work... Mike Link to comment
gsaphoto 2 Posted January 18, 2013 It ready for print and find own place on the wall! Link to comment
GailAnthonyHarmer 6 Posted January 18, 2013 Lovely and not your typical 'Castle' landscape. You found an excellent opportunity, whilst the sand certainly was a hindrance while taking the shot, it certainly redered a very unique foreground. Glad you camera did not suffer. Well done once more Alf. Seems like Silver FX while not the 'B/all and End/all' certainly has opened so many opportunities, and it is lovely when you have new creative opportunities to experiment with! Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted January 18, 2013 I can't say it was the most comfortable of experiences, but it yielded some interesting results. One thing I loved about this area, was the vast empty beaches, early morning and late evening as here, were the best times.Sincere Thanks for your interest and thoughtful feedback Michael! Best Regards Alf MIKE The whole area of the Northumberland coast is dotted with castles and steeped in history, a real joy to explore and behold!. If I wasn't so interested in taking the photographs I think my next hobby would be some amateur archaeology. Its very gratifying to read that the sense of mystery was conveyed so well to you!Sincere Thanks & Best Regards Alf GRIGORIYMany Thanks for your interest and positive feedback. I handn't actually considered this one for printing.........but now you've started me thinking about it! Best Regards Alf GAIL This particular castle must get photographed nearly as often as Buckingham Palace : - ) So its really very gratifying to read that perhaps I captured something a bit different. Sometimes just when we think all the elements are against us, we get a nice consolation prize : - )"Silver Efex" does indeed offer a wonderful range of B & W finishes an styles, and yes you would be right and probably know better than most, just how good it is to find new creative tools to experiment with.Sincere Thanks for your thoughts and posiitve feedback Gail! benhuybrechts 0 Posted January 19, 2013 Wow, this is a very nice image. The tones and composition is great. I also love the vignetting. Ben Link to comment
wolfgangarnold 142 Posted January 19, 2013 the title suits perfect - and it was definitely worth fighting the sand :-) - it looks like the castle is racing through the centuries... Link to comment
thadley 15 Posted January 20, 2013 The foreground is quite appealing and so is the entire image. Well done! Link to comment
elportebonheur 0 Posted January 21, 2013 On first sight this is pretty straightforward, realistically and from a perspective that is quite familiar to the (english) viewer. However, imho this one is more about conveying a mood or feeling because you isolate that specific fg facet that tells more about the interesting surrounding than about the castle itself. Clever - compliments! Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted January 21, 2013 Many Thanks for your positive feedback, much appreciated! At last I feel like I'm making some progress with B & W processing, its all a learning curve I guess!Best Regards Alf WOLFGANG I quitle like that analogy "Racing through the centuries" it makes the castle sound like an enormous time machine......and yeah I suppose in a way it is!Sincere Thanks & Best Regards Alf TONY Well ......if could have chosen the conditions I would never have ended up with a photo looking anything like this, just as well we can't control everything eh!Many Thanks Tony & Best Regards Alf EL I agree, the English viewer must get Bamburgh Castle overload, along with Houses of Parliament and Tower Bridge.I was very fortunate that the prevailing conditions made me think again about the composition, and its very gratifying to read that the reflected mood was communicated so clearly. Sincere Thanks & Best Regards Alf Link to comment
panayotis_papadopoulos 0 Posted January 21, 2013 Ethereal and imposing image! The amazing foreground gets you into the "story", created by the photographer, and suddenly you want to know everything about this castle standing there calling you to discover it's myths and legends...bravo Alf! richygale 0 Posted January 22, 2013 wonderfully scene forground, leading into a great image, well done Alf. Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted January 22, 2013 There is a vast amount of history attached to this location both ancient, in terms ancient Britons that first had a fort on this site in AD 420 - 547 until the Vikings destroyed the original fortification in 993. And modern history of film settings including "Robin Hood, The Devils, and Robin of Sherwood" but to name a few. Inbetween of course the castle was invloved in "The War of The Roses" and various border incidents with Scotland. Many Thanks for your interest and positive feedback! Best Regards Alf RICHARD Good to hear from you! I hope you are keeping well!Northumberland is another amazing UK location, steeped in history and wonderful landscape photo opportunities.Sincere Thanks & Best Regards Alf Link to comment

alfbailey 3 Posted January 29, 2013 I think "monumental" is a good description, as the castle does stand on a high point like a huge monument amidst a wide flat sandy area. Many Thanks for your interest and kind words! Best Regards Alf Link to comment
ffrank 0 Posted January 30, 2013 Nicely done Alf. I like the blowing, drifting sand underlining the stone castle and nice sky. Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted January 31, 2013 Many Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts! It was one of those days when you think the whole world has conspired against you, including the elements and in particular in this case the damm wind! But every cloud has a silver lining as they say : - )Cheers Fred!
