It looks like a flight from misery ;-) (assuming you have just left the Evensk airport flying to the right out over the Sea of Okhotsk)

I have been in the neighborhood, in Magadan in 1997. We were 4 people canoing the Omolon river, from its springs down to the "city" of Omolon. All the people we met were very kind and hospitable. The whole trip took two months (from Norway back to Norway).

In contrast to the cityscape in your picture, the natural wilderness with its rivers, plains and mountains is breathtaking beautiful. It is my guess that you only have to walk half an hour or even less to reach out there from this place.
