An impressive photo of this magnificent animal, Alf. I like your POV & straightforward composition, as well as the way you processed the pic in B&W. Silver Efex Pro is a great program, which I use from time too for b&w conversions. (although not always, as I like my own step-by-step pattern in PS as well :-)

The above picture could be featured as a backdrop in the Museum of Natural History....

I hope that you spent nice Christmas days with your family, Alf.  All the very best to you and yours for a happy & healthy 2013.

Many Thanks for your interest and positive feedback.

I'm still experimenting with Silver Efex, it keeps surprising me with the vast array of tones etc.

Glad you liked this one Neil.

Best Wishes to you and yours  for 2013

Many Thanks for your thoughtful feedback. I took quite a few shots from different angles of this hairy guy, but the angled shots just didn't look right, so I opted for the simple side view which I think works.

Silver Efex is a brilliant piece of software, but one can get carried away with it, and I think its a good idea to stay in touch with the more traditional B & W processing in PS.

I had a lovely Christmas thank you, and hope that you did too!

My Sincere Best Wishes to you and your loved ones for 2013

They are quite gentle creatures too, not quite as rough as they seem : - )

Love the image and the tonality you employed.  The bad hairday really works to your advantage here. LOVE IT.  rek

Sincere Thanks for your thoughtful feedback, much appreciated!

I do have several images of this fine animal in glorious colour! But I don't think he looks quite as majestic somehow.  I will however remember to post a colour version at some in the future

Hi Alf. Happy New Year! What a exquisite image, quite remarkable detail when opened large! The light used and the post processing is excellent, this would be a great image to advertise the breed!

Best wishes. Sarah.

Happy New Year!

Great to hear from you as always, I hope you are keeping well!

If you watch "Countryfile" ther farmer on there keeps a herd of these animals, and although they look quite formidable, they are in fact gentle giants. I was able to walk amongst them without feeling any kind of threat at all.

The post processing was carried out using "Nik Silver Efex Pro 2" if you ever consider leaning towards B & W then I can thoroughly recommend this software.

Sincere Thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback Sarah.

Many Thanks for your interest and thoughtful feedback, much appreciated!

I used a longer lens and hand held for this shot, but the Tamron 70 - 300mm does have a VC (Vibration Control) facility that helps.

A grand creature, captured with unbelievable detail.  I like the toning as well, giving it a silvery, slightly tarnished sheen.  The cloud adds a nice framing device.

I don't usually rely on hand held shots, simply because my hands are not all that steady.  But on the this occasion the terrain was very rough, with deep holes between the tussocks of grass, and so using a tripod was a bit cumbersome.   But it was a bright day and the VC function of the lens helped too.

Cheers Jeff!

I often wonder how I miss these very impressive shots, trying so hard to keep up but I missed this wonderful beast. Fantastic creature, one that truly I would expect to be much more formidable that gentle. I do like you processing Alf and good to hear you are still enjoying your Silver FX. I don't see that you have named him yet?

Link to comment

Yes good point!......That is very remiss of me to leave the poor unkempt creature unamed! Despite his rough appearance he is a gentle soul and yet does still retain an air of aloofness and regal dignity...........therefore I will name him Harold or maybe he could be known as Hairy Harold to his friends : - )

I'm still loving the "Silver Efex"......so much in fact I can't seem to get back to colour, but I dare say the novelty will wear off soon : - )

Many Thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback Gail I know just how busy you are and how difficult it is to keep up from personal experience.

Kind Regards

Hi Alf-WOW,this is really an excellent image, your technical skills are super We think of an ordinary cow as a mild bovine creature whereas this one appears a little dangerous, but apparently has a mild nature. Guess it is the long hair & also you can't see her eyes.If I can't see the eyes of man or beast it gives me an uneasy feeling.some of our historic traits are still with us. Am curious about the background in your image, it appears as if a spotlight was used for lighting, although it looks like clouds behind the cow. receive d another letter from your new organization asking if I cared to submit comments about yourself. So, I composed a very nice letter which I think you would have liked. but would not accept it because I did not have a password, guess some believe I am a member , others know differently. Anyway, have rambled long enough. Best Regards-Ross.

I think that is a wonderful name for your friend Alf!!!! He certainly does not look like a David, Mikey, Brian, Bob, William, Evan etc. Tnks for the chuckle! Gail

These guys do look a bit formidable, but I think the horns are for decoration purposes only, and I suppose, a bit like Hippys were once pecieved, the long hair can look quite intimidating : - )

The background is just a cloud that happened top be in the right place at the right time, and the shot was taken on a bright sunny day, in fact I thnk that cloud was the only one for miles around : - )

Don't worry about emails from Linkedin, they send them out automatically, if they continue to annoy you just block them from your addrees book.

Take good care my friend!

Ahh yes, I think I might have made another errrm mistake : - )

I'm now wondering if "Hairy Harold" is in fact female, in which case I will build in the contingency name of "Hairy Harriet" ........sheesh and you ladies thought you had problems with excess hair!    : - )

Cheers Gail!

They do indeed look like creatures from another era. In fact you would think they would be closely related to wooly Mammoths with a direct link to the Ice Age. : - )

Many Thanks Panayotis!]
