alfbailey 3 Posted December 26, 2012 Sincere Thanks for your visit and kind words. The old film look is one of the effects that can be used in the software Nik Silver Efex. It suits some images. Best Regards Alf Link to comment
thadley 15 Posted December 30, 2012 The sitting girl on the right complements very well the sitting sculptures. Compliments re the composition.I toss a bit about the range of tones when I process BW. My ultimate goal is to get as wide a range of tones without losing any details. Yet some say to me that you should have some black areas without details which enrich the viewing pleasure. I am undecided at the moment. I take this opportunity to wish you a fantastic 2013 with continued superb images. Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted December 31, 2012 Sincere Thanks I always appreciate your imput! I have in the past heard the same comments related to me, that you have (reference the pure black areas). But I'm more inclined to try and include a lot of detail. I think at the end of the day you just have to strike a balance of what feels right. I think in this particular instance there is a lot of detail yet there are areas of black on the statues that have been retained. I have seen some of the old B & W film effects with very stark B & W tones, and although they may evoke nostagia for some, I prefer a wider range of tones and details.Sincere Best Wishes for 2013 and beyond! LenMarriott 9 Posted January 1, 2013 Happy New Year! Great detail throughout in this image probably due mainly to low contrast lighting conditions and perhaps a judicious bit of Photoshop magic. In a perfect world the girl would have been facing left or sitting on the left side of the ledge. But we get what we are presented with and for that you've done well. Love the toning, and the image MUST be viewed 'larger' for the sharpness to be fully appreciated. Best, LM. Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted January 2, 2013 I always tend to think of you as something of an authority on B & W photography, so it is particularly gratifying to read your words regarding tone etc. I have to agree about the composition, Ideally there would have been two people facing each other each side of the fountain, but as you quite rightly pointed out "we get what we are presented with"I didn't do much in the way of "photoshop magic" but I did use another bit of software called "Nik Silver Efex Pro 2" which I thoroughly recommend! It can really transform some colour images way beyong what I thought was possible. Many Thanks for your thoughtful feedback, and my Sincere Best Wishes for 2013 Alf Link to comment
andrea-de-bonis 6 Posted January 8, 2013 at a first look i missed something, as if the frame was to close. but after i understood that in this way you give the feeling of the isolation of the girl, she seems alone with her sandwich. but statues are with her.... Link to comment
