Yes, photographers do often go to extremes to get a different shot. An interesting street shot. I don't know if  this is the full frame or if it was cropped down. Personally I find it a touch too tight on the top and sides, a couple more inches room would be better IMO. The other point for me are the tones. I find the straps on the bags draw the eye away since they are the brightest thing in the image. I might suggest toning them down and brightening the face and camera of the subject to draw the viewers attention there. I've done a quick edit to show what I mean. Just my 2 cents worth.
