alfbailey 3 Posted December 9, 2012 I couldn't think of a better adjective "Bucolic" sums it up really well. I'd love to have spent more time at this place, but all we had was a few hours and for two of them it was torrential rain. I will go back there one day, the whole place is magical. Sincere Thanks for your thoughts and invaluable feedback! Best Regards Alf Link to comment
Jack McRitchie 150 Posted December 14, 2012 I think you have kind of answered a question I've been wanting to ask you for some time. Since I am primarily a street photographer, I've been looking for a light weight p&s that I could carry around wherever I go. My Nikon D7000 is fine but rather a load to sling around my neck if I'm not specifically out to do some shooting. You really seem to get excellent results with your Samsung (I don't know if you noted the model number in your details and I don't want to interrupt this comment to go back and check since my words have a way of disappearing into cyberspace when I do that). My one consideration is how it functions in the rather strongly contrasted and sometimes shadowy urban environment where bright daylight often slants through the spaces between tall buildings, creating challenging photographic conditions. This is where I do most of my shooting and there really isn't much open space in Osaka. I bought the Olympus EP-1 some time back and it simply doesn't handle shadows or high contrast well at all, tending towards extreme graininess in the dark areas. Most of your pictures have an abundance of daylight. I wonder if your have used it under more challenging conditions and whether you were pleased with the results.. Thanks, Jack Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted December 14, 2012 Hard to beat the Nikon DSLR in terms of quality. But I have to say the Samsung P & S has performed well in all the light ranges I have used. That being said, I don't think I have subjected it to the very strongly contrasted scenes that you encounter on a regular basis. So I can't give you an honest appraisal. I have used it indoors though and been pleased with the results. At the moment I am unable to imitate the kind of strong contrast that you describe in order to test it fo rthe simple reason there has been no sign of the sun here for a while.I particularly enjoyed viewing the images you posted of the basement with the various light shapes filtering through. I am sure this is the type of shot you are referring to. But as yet I haven't come across this type of scene myself. Maybe come spring or summer I might have more useful answers for you. From a portable convenience viewpoint the samsung has captured images that I simply wouldn't have been able to take as a result of not taking my DSLR along.Cheers Jack!
