hamidfarzandian 0 Posted November 16, 2012 Impressive landscape shot! Composition is excellent and flawless, and i specially impressed by masterful white balance ( natural and very accurate ). The nice early touches of light on fg elements added much to the scene. Bravo.Hamid. Link to comment

I got lucky this time! Best Regards Alf HAMID Many Thanks for your thoughtful feedback. I have a great respect for your expertise on the subject, and therefore your words are most gratifying to read. panayotis_papadopoulos 0 Posted November 16, 2012 Beautiful landscape, very well captured. The reflection in the water is amazing! Again, great work here Alf! Bravo! Link to comment
benhuybrechts 0 Posted November 17, 2012 I must have missed this one last weekend. Lovely image, your landscapes always have a foreground, middle and background. This makes it a strong composition. Ben Link to comment
3m 0 Posted November 17, 2012 I like the way you 'wove' such a crisp & natural-colored layered landscape here, Alf.... reading it almost in 'zig zag mode'. Love the subtle details of the pebbles underneath the water surface, on closer inspection... (My husband just remarked that your photo reminded him of a Ferdinand Hodler painting...) Link to comment
ndj 0 Posted November 18, 2012 Gorgeous, idyllic, scene Alf! Beautiful light, a splendid reflection, delightful clouds, and an air of tranquility. I'd love to spend a few hours hanging out there. All the best,Neil Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted November 18, 2012 Many Thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback, much appreciated! It was a rare moment to find the old glacier lake calm and without a ripple, and I took full advantage of it and took as many shots as possible. Needless to say it didn't last long and the wind started up about 15 minutes later. Best Regards Alf BEN Composition is something I strive very hard to get right, but it doesn't always follow that observation of the "rules" as such, make a good photograph. But thankfully this one played by the rules. Many Thanks Ben & Best Regards Alf MARJOLEIN Many Thanks for your thoughts and kind words, much appreciated!I clicked the link that you kindly provided and viewed some of the work of Ferdinand Hodler.Suffice to say Its very gratifying to learn that my photo was a reminder to your husband of his work, such talent! The Nikkor 14 - 24 mm is a fine lens, and is considered widely to be amongst one of the best landscape lenses around. Its only real shortcoming (in my opinion) is the fact it doesn't readilly accept filters of any kind. I mention this because for such a shot as this I would normally have used a polarising filter and thus made the submerged stones a lot more visible.Cheers Marjolein! Alf NEIL It's a wonderful location, but never usually quite so hospitable. The weather is usually inclement and the wind normally ripples the surface of the old glacier lake. It is a great place to spend some time discovering and photographing. If you ever manage a trip to the UK I'd be pleased to show you around. Many Thanks Neil and Best Regards Alf Link to comment
malmer 0 Posted November 19, 2012 Hi Alf,Excellent landscape. The mirrored reflection in the lake is beautiful and yet the picture is not symmetric which I like a lot. I also appreciate to be able to spot the stones on the bottom of the shallow lake. There is really a lot to enjoy here, and you made a very strong composition.best regards Per. Link to comment
papasan 0 Posted November 20, 2012 Lovely landscape well captured Alf. I really like the reflection and the peacefulness of the scene. Great sky, and interesting rising mist. Nice work as usual. Link to comment
JamieK 1 Posted November 21, 2012 Fourteen! Ooooh. Pretty wide, I'll grant you, and you done a wonderful job with it. still think you should have been lower! best, j Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted November 22, 2012 I think there are times when the dynamics of the available shapes in a landscape, make for a powerful symmetrical image, but it wasn't the case here. If I had gone for a classic kind of 50 / 50 composition with the water horizon in the middle I think it would have looked off balance, so it is very gratifying to read your observations.Sincere Thanks & Best Regards Alf MICHEL It was another early start, as I recall about 6.30 am in the middle of summer. The best time of the day, but it doesn't last very long, the sun is soon powerful enough to become too bright.Sincere thanks for your interest and thoughtful comments |Michel. Best Regards Alf JAMIE Well, if you have a big wide one, why not flaunt it! : - )Lower,...............well maybe a touch, but due consideration would have to be given to the remaining proportions of sky/mountain/reflection when looking through the viewfinder. Many Thanks for your thoughts Jamie, always interesting to get your views.Best Regards Alf Link to comment
