Jim,

This is great.  I have never seen a wild turkey, but I know they are quite common in the Texas Hill Country where I live.

I expect this Tom Wild Turkey will be much more cautious this next

week!

Thanks for taking the time to view, comment/critique or rate.

Out of the many dozen bird pics on photo.net, your turkey stands tall! I'm serious; I like the square format, the lack of HDR, the DOF. It all works well. Nice job, Jim.

Bill,   I understand that they have extremely good eyesight much like a Bird of Prey. However, I have found that they are also very much "creatures of habit" and once you find an area where they move from one feeding area to another they will do their traveling at nearly the same time every day for some time. You can almost set your watch by them!

This guy was doing some "strutting" with his tail feathers & wings flared while he was in the timber, and I had hoped he would do so once he came out into the clearing and better light. But, of course, he didn't! Maybe next time.

Mark,   Thanks! With this frontal view, the square crop was about the only thing I could come up with for a bit of composition. I was really hoping to catch him in a side view (showing his beard better) while he was strutting but it didn't happen. And naturally Tom here wouldn't listen to any posing directions!

Thanks for your visits and valuable comments!

Animals seldom do what you would like them to, however you have done a great job here, he stands out quite well against the very natural looking surroundings.

Best Regards

Many thanks!

As they were moving toward me, he was putting on quite a show for the several Hens in the group, but was aware of my presence. He strutted a bit while in the distance, then would go into the timber and strut some more as I waited for them to get closer.

It was quite a show that I was hoping to capture!

Thanks again Alf,

Jim j.
