Well Stepanie.... I'll tell you what, starting off with a camera like the Canon 10d you should have no problems makeing descent images. Like this one for instance. This shot has pretty good Aesthetics. Nice lighting, good composition, nice lighting and background. On the originality side of things it could be spiced up a bit. I'm sure most people have seen shots like this on PN before. All I can say is take as many pictures as you can and let your creativeness build. T.Page

It's a very nice shot with good overall balance and you did well at doing the B&W conversion in PhotoShop. However, I think originality suffers a bit and I agree with Toby's comment above. I quote: "take as many pictures as you can and let your creativeness build". This is even more possible with a digital camera.

Even some cropping of your image may change create a different effect and give a new feeling to it. I did a simple cropping below as an example.

I like the cropping as is. The lighting is a little flat, but just a little. Well above par for "just starting out".
