This image may never contribute to notions of "high art" but its' contribution is to record making and warm fuzzy feelings. These feelings can have high value in a cynical world and, as such, should be presented with the best technique as possible. My adjustments to your image included shadow-highlights image adjustment, taking a snapshot and using the history brush to return the background to the original tones, a 20% midrange and highlight dodge on her eyes, and adding blue to her skin color to get a better color balance on her face. Photoshop is as important as your camera---learn all you can about both along with how-to books on portrait photography. Good luck. Link to comment
