eric_reid3 0 Posted July 11, 2003 Although I've been reading PhotoNet and admiring others' work for quite some time, I've never posted a pic for critique, so here goes. This was at a temple in Angkor, Cambodia at late afternoon. The young monk was wandering the temple and I stepped out on a ledge, quickly composed, allowing some flare from the afternoon sun. I'd really like to hear opinions from this first post. Thanks for taking the time. I think my equipment used should come up automatically, but in case it doesn't, this was taken with a Leica M6TTL, 50/2 Summicron using Tri-X (normal) at around 1/60th. Eric Link to comment
taner 3 Posted July 12, 2003 Cropping not an option? A tiny stretch at the top would 'elevate' this photo in my opinion. Impressive. Link to comment
americo_vespucci 0 Posted July 12, 2003 Wonderful photo. I like composition and lighting. But I agree with Askin about the crop. Link to comment
carol_watson 0 Posted July 13, 2003 This is a great shot. I like how the monk is gazing over his shoulder... so casually, without worry that he is actually standing on a narrow ledge. I would definitely crop off the top portion that is overexposed. That would make this picture perfect! Link to comment
victor_bentzvi 0 Posted July 14, 2003 a great image. fantastic. about the flare, its only adds to the power of the image, and may be one of the most importent components of the image. thsi image is a real artistic, philosophical and psycological statement. any man who truly belives in the way he lives feels deep inside his mind that he is on top. each one of those ppl (be them very social animals etc) looks sometimes at the life and other ppl from this point of view - as a spectator (greek philosophers, sophists, even defined in that way the philosophy - life is an act and we r spectators). techically i would rather prefer here fp4+ with rodinal. ithink that cartier-bresson would not be shamed of this image (especially when it was done with leica and 50mm) Link to comment
audrey lee reid 0 Posted July 14, 2003 It would almost be ashame to do anything to this image. But I guess the top is rather overexposed. If you left it, you'd probably always wonder if......I'd crop as little as possible. Link to comment
maria_s. 1 Posted July 30, 2003 Great work. I don't care for that flare at all, it was there and you couldn't make it go away, so it's only natural. That foreground thing could be less prominent but heck I just love that shot for what it does to my brains. Link to comment
sammer 0 Posted August 2, 2003 Excellent image. Don't change a thing. This is one of those rare occaisions where flare really works... why waste that? As for the foreground object, I really enjoy the perspective... as if the viewer is peering from behind a wall. Beautiful. Link to comment
