I always wanted to do something like this! It looks very funny indeed with the olive trees on the rock, BUT it does not transport the 'sunset' you mention in the title.

Also, it seems to be a bit on the fuzzy and unsharp side, or is this a result of the transformation?

Thanks, Monika for the attentive comment. Following are my answers:

  - Making this kind of shot is relatively easy using the hugin program. There seems to be a "fashion" in doing these little planets and my own series of them is not the only one, you can find many of them on the web.

  - The sunrise (yes, it is sunrise, not sunset) is only slightly visible, the sun actually is behind the olive tree (the orange little light spot). But you are right, there is no dramatic sun effect. Maybe the fact that I know I took this picture at the first rays of the sun makes me a biased viewer. So much for objectivity...

  - The fuzziness alas is real, it is not a consequence of the transformation but  rather of my careless setting of the camera: I shot this at f# 5.6 when I should have stopped down to f# 8 or even 11.
