Beautiful composition Alf..... Viewing full screen really brings it to life. There is much character in this tired old boat which seem to be waiting for enough water to lift it from the mud in order to get back to work. Nice light and wonderful sky as well. Congratulations.

Great work with colours and composition, the favorite part for me in this shoot is the sky, it give you a"mood" in the image.

Great work

Many Thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback! There was at one time two of these boats that used to reside together side by side, but I haven't seen the other one for some time.  It kind of leaves me guessing wether these boats are still in use or not. But I think it would take one of the very high spring tides to float this one.

Cheers Fred!

Many Thanks for your interest and kind words. I think I|was very fortunate with the sky, and of course the wide angle makes the most of the dynamics.  I have tried to get a similar shot on at least 4 different ocassions and failed. I had to get lucky some time : - )

An interesting shot. I specially impressed by the angle of capture with powerful lines at upper and lower parts, which are identical and balancing. With respect to different tones, i suggest bw version, as an another try. Congratulations.

My best regards,

Hamid.

Sincere thanks for your thoughtful comments and positive feedback.

I have in fact already processed a B & W version, but wasn't sure about posting it on PN I don't like to think people will get bored with viewing the same images in B & W.  But as you have mentioned it I will post the B & W version, as it does seem to have a different mood. If you get time I'd appreciate your thoughts.

i viewed it big, Alf. color version is excellent; very interesting when compared with the stark bw version: those earthy red paint chips, the rust throughout, the worn-colored frayed rope, the details of the junk in the boat, that lovely mud she's stuck in, the cloudy, ominous sky, all surrounded by green. she's an antique, she is! it's very moving, sentimental in color. enlarged, i feel i can step right into that boat, with some beers and a few cheese sandwitchs! and make another story among her million past stories! but always remember the wellies ;-} dp

Good to hear from you! I hope you are keeping well!

Beware of the mud! The ruts and holes are many fold in this area and the mud has claimed hundreds of wellies : - ) But not mine thankfully, well not yet anyway.  Oh yes I can just picture you there like queen of the Nile, cheese sandwich in one hand, beer bottle in the other, and mud smeared wellies resting on the bow.  Ahhh yes the good life : - )

This is probably one of the most hard earned photo's I have managed to capture. Out of 4 - 5 visits I have perhaps 3 images that I would consider any good, and all of them were on this last session.

Many Thanks for sharing your thoughts and positive feedback, much appreciated!

I will attempt to do a painting of this, you have inspired me to take my sketches to another medium, maybe oils.  ? Maybe acrylics.  I love the composition of this!  It makes me feel as if the boat was in the main focus of many lives at one time and now just gives us a glimpse of the past and it's once unique character.  Like my sweet grandpa, it seems to tell me that it still has much to offer, in it's own way.  It was once very strong and in it's own way, even though it is stayed by the sand and the ravages of time, it is still strong and stout.  Imagine little boys climbing on it.  It still gives us comfort and memories.  I love it.  I love the colors too, the blue/green/yellow grass, the rusty red, the blue interior.  Thank you for sharing!!!

Sincere Thans for your interest and thoughtful feedback, much appreciated!

I am deeply honoured that you would consider using this photograph as a painting subject.  I have to admit it is one of my personal favourites, and I did have a really large 36" x 24" version printed and framed, it now hangs over my fireplace, and I'm very pleased with the result.

I also like your description of the old boat as having "once unique character"  There are a number of old vessels at the location not too far from my home, many of them crumbling wrecks, but this one as you say, surviving the ravages of time.

Good to hear from you Toni and I would of course love to see the result of your painting! Maybe you could even post it on PN?

Thanks again & Best Regards

Alf, I love this image. If I try to visualize changing the camera angle a little this way or that, it just wouldn't work like this. I love the drama that wide angle adds to the sky. It radiates out from the subject.  Your post processing is impeccable as well. Looks hdr but tastefully so. I wish I'd taken this one.

Best,

David

Many Thanks for your interest and thoughtful feedback, very much appreciated.

This is a single shot and not HDR, but the light was perfect to pick out all the detail and the Nikkor 14 - 24 mm lens did a great job.

I don't get many of my images printed, but I did with this one, and the 3ft x 2ft print I was very pleased with.

Hi Alf-Finally discovered this old boat, at the time thought the B&W would be the stronger image. but now have to review my thoughts.Believe it's the colours, can imagine the bright red hull, shiny chains & proud captain in the wheelhouse when bright shining new & the slow degeneration over the years of this now discarded work horse slowly degenerating in this remote place As usual you have crafted an appealing image,at least it creates a feeling of sadness in this viewer & to me an emotional response, indicates an excellent image,Still have not solved the problems with my 6D,,,,have ruled out the camera,a very experienced computer friend believes there is too much data being assigned to each image. To top it off they claim my test trial has ended,so I have been busy collecting all the purchasing data going back to Elements 10 & I do not owe them a red cent. Don't understand how they make these mistakes, they must have payment records Best Regards-Ross

Sincere Thanks for your thoughts regarding this one!

This is still one of my own personal favourites, it is printed 3ft x 2ft and takes pride of place on my living room wall.

There is a sense of sadness in its decline, but I also get an overwhelming sense of character and mood and the impression that this boat had many stories to reveal.......albeit through a visual means.

So sorry to hear about your 6D problems, but the solution is simple........buy a Nikon : - )

Take care my friend!

The old boat's colors are perfect with the background greens and blues. The perspective of the boat is also very interesting.

Many thanks for your thoughtful feedback!

It's a bit of a lottery visiting the old boats on the estuary, they get moved about by the high tides and not always in a good way. This time I got lucky though.

You commented one of my photos so I  entered your portfolio. Inmediately I found that masterpiece in it.  Very well done. The string in the corner, very good. You used very well your wide angle. Congratulations.
