Picture was shot near the mall in downtown DC. They were not doctored at all, though Lord knows they look it! That's why I like them so much - they have a very Star Trek feel to them, at least for my tastes.

I went down to the mall in Washington, DC this 4th of July and just

started shooting loads of pictures. There were some folks standing

in front of me, which annoyed me at first, but then I started to like

the contrast with the fireworks beyond them, so kept shooting. Just

curious how folks like this and the other photos in the folder. What

I personally like about them is that they look more like pictures of

nebulae (sp?) than fireworks.

Fireworks can be difficult less the usual stuff. You did a great job adding participants. It's one of those; "now how exactly did he expose that" kind of pictures.

Your right, it reminds me of a nebulae picture. Sure you didn't take this with the hubble? This is one of the most creative fireworks pictures I've ever seen.

Thanks Vivid. And Jeffrey, since you asked about how I exposed the picture, I took at look at the original and here you go:

Exposure time: 10/25 (0.40000)

F-stop: 8.0

ISO speed: 100

Honestly, I just kept shooting while constantly adjusting the exposure time with each shot. This one was almost 1/2 a second, while another I really like was 1/40th of a second.

I was just looking at my 4oJ pix and wished I'd thought to include some FG stuff with my fireworks.

What first caught my attention was the resemblance to a telescope photo of a nebula, then the profiles of the observers emerged. Interesting image.

Great compostion and exposure. This really is an incredible and creative fireworks picture. One becomes tired of seeing the Washington Monument in the background of every fireworks shot from the mall.

Hi Ivo. I swear, this really is fireworks. Basically, I think, a bunch of fireworks had just gone off, thus the big cloud on the left, and some of the sparkler type fireworks were going off on the right (the small cluster). But the effect, unbeknownst to me, was to capture what I captured. I will say that I learned my lesson - the photos I simply took of the fireworks themselves were pretty boring - I didn't even include them here - they need some kind of foreground, and the flashes from the fireworks do a good job of freezing the action of any people in the picture.

Browsing the thumbnails I at first thought this was an image of the Horsehead Nebula in Orion. Great job!

I first thought it was an astronomical picture, people standing in a planetarium in front of a nebula picture... Very creative firework picture.
