photographypanoptikon 0 Posted July 23, 2012 This shot was taken with a Canon EOS 3000 on Ektachrome E100 VS Slide Film and processed with Lightroom 3.2. Bet Giyorgis (or "The House of Saint George") was the last of Lalibella's monolithic Churches to be carved (not built, all churchess were carved from single boulders) and it is the only one not under scaffolding making it the most photographed of Lalibella's churches. I unfortunately got a sun reflection and can't really get rid of it. Which is a shame as many rate the monolithic churches of Lalibella as the Eigth wonder of the world. The crafsmanship is immaculate and the town of Lalibella has a very humbling holy feel to it. It was an honor to travel there. The churches were carved in the 1100s relatively quickly and the locals will tell you that Angels assisted in the work at night while the human workers worked the days. If you travel to Ethiopia, Lalibella is a must. Link to comment
