Terriffic light indeed Jo & beautifully captured. Yes, the weather has been pretty uncooperative for the last few months along the coast too.

I love this frame! It's almost like the tree was cut and paste into the situation, which works for me because it takes nature and creates binary opposition.. Like, one side you've got the underdog hero (in valiant colour. naturally!) and the menacing villain (ominous gloom yada yada..) And in the meantime, I can just feel the stillness and anticipation of battle! Just the other day (Brisbane CBD, riverside) there was this strange stillness and the sky was really dark but the sun was shining really brightly, so that whatever clouds were lit were glowing like puffy lightbulbs.. I had some Ilford FP4 in my camera and didn't think there was enough reason to finish up what was left to chuck in some colour. I stepped onto my balcony and the tension in the atmosphere was palpable. Then I caught sight of the brightest, widest rainbow I had ever scene.. by the time I ran out of my house, up the bridge, changed my film and pointed, it was all gone. *sigh* so here's some respect to you for being in the right place at the right time. Sublime effort! Cheers :)

where you live, this was PhotoShopped. The tree is lit from the front (sun behind the camera) and the sun is breaking through the clouds in front of us. Good trick, good editing, but it doesn't look real for a reason...

The shadow of the tree says it was arround the noon when the shot was taken... the sun in the sky suggests different time... Maybe you should have mentioned it was edited. Still an interesting image.

Jo emailed me and said that it was not edited...I guess if the sun is very high in the sky it would be possible to light the clouds in such a manner. Apologies...

Fantastic image. Nature gave you a great opportunity and you were up to the challenge, complementing what was given with artful composition & fine technical skill. Excellent work. Best Regards, Sarah

beautiful capture of the moody lighting which occurs when only part of the sky is cloud-covered. Nice composition. The tree would have been interesting even without the lighting.
