Fantastic clarity and great lighting. Great capture with the food in its mouth. Well seen! It is also a beautiful bird.

Phil, I am confused. This looks more like some kind of a hawk-is it just the angle? I guess hawks don't eat snails.

Hi Margaret.  Thanks for stopping by.  This is a small bird.  I was just lucky to be able to get it large in the frame.  To quote the Cornell Lab about the features of the female: "brown and streaky overall, thick dark streaks on breast, buff or orangish throat, sharply pointed conical bill."  I think I see what you are saying, but this one was very small compared to a hawk and doesn't have the crooked bill.

I see what you are saying. Thanks for the info. Guess I'd better start studying my birds more :0) It is still a wonderful image.

I had been watching this lady from a spot in the bushes nearby as

she perched on this dead tree branch adjacent to a pond in my local

wildlife reserve. I started taking a few shots as she dove with her

breakfast towards the water surface. Then she swooped back up

and landed on the branch again. Thanks for your time to visit and

leave any comments!

Nice and on-time capture.  It must be very difficult but it is worth.  Sharp and clean.  Best Regards,
