keith_micoli 0 Posted May 18, 2001 This is what I think is my best effort with this barn. I post it for further criticism and to show those who critiqued my prior efforts that I tried to incorporate their suggestions. Sorry about the large size, I forgot to resize it and deleting and reposting after getting 9 ratings seemed like an unfair thing to do. Link to comment
pralay 0 Posted May 18, 2001 I loved the soft and pleasing greens. I have two suggestions: 1. The sky is white and draws too much attention. It's the only brightest color among all other nice soft colors. I feel it's better to crop the sky out. 2. I don't think you need the tree at right side. So crop it out. In fact you don't need to show the whole barn. So crop out some more at right side (my preference - keep only the 1/3 length of the barn...cropping out the wooden bar nailed on wall). That will put the attention to the green pastures in front of barn. I guess that's what you want. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted May 18, 2001 This is MUCH better. I love it just like this. I think the tree on right and the sky broaden the view and establish the setting for the barn. If you were going to sell prints, though, the suggested crop might actually be better. Link to comment
andy_graham 0 Posted May 18, 2001 Keith,it is your vision so these are only suggestions and personal preferences....i agree with Pralay....if it is a picture of the barn then keep it pretty much as it is...but you can still portray the beauty and tranquility of the scene by cropping about half of the barn and the washed out sky....btw,i rated this pretty high because i like it as it is..but it could be improved as could everybody's shots Link to comment
pralay 0 Posted May 19, 2001 Yes it depends on personal preference. I loved the soft and pleasing colors of green pasture. That's why I wanted keep the attention on it - at the same time partially-shown barn, scattered equipments and the fence are going to add a dimension for the whole environment. It was overcast sky - perfect light for this kind of painting-like picture. And I don't think this is the right light to show an old barn. Instead I would prefer shiny late afternoon or early morning light for it - so that I can get some hard and dark shadows on wave-like (or corrugated) roof and walls. But again, this is just MY preference. Link to comment
keith_micoli 0 Posted May 20, 2001 I appreciate your comments and thoughts on this. I pass this place twice a day and while I liked the light on this shot a lot, I have taken some in more direct afternoon light and got pretty good results. I will keep experimenting, thanks for the good ideas.keith Link to comment
