I really like this colourful portrait Heather, it has a nice saucy touch to it. Like the vivid colours and composition too. Well done.

A vintage car and a scene not seen much anymore, using the mirror as a vanity.  An eye catching shot...  Oh yeah, welcome to PN...  Mike

I like it the color works great and the idea is fun, did you try it in the other direction to? I think it can be a good shoot if you got her in the mirror.

Best regards Tore

I like the bright colours and the idea behind the picture.

The subject of the image is plainly meant to be the girl, but speaking personally I don't think the picture quite pulls it off. This is mainly due to her position in the frame - it allows a large flattish expanse of red to dominate much of the image, whereas the girl feels a bit pushed out to the right hand and top edges. There just isn't quite enough of her in the picture.

My suggestions would be:

  • Keeping the existing picture, you could crop off the bottom part of the picture from just below the elbow. This I think would balance the composition a bit more
  • Alternatively, you could reshoot in a landscape format. This might allow you to have the girl a bit more centrally in the frame, rather than out at the edge.

A most charming and o so retro portriat indeed that I like very much just as it is!!! There are some very harsh critics on this site and often the most harsh make the most pedestrian images themselves. I notice the poster above doesn't even have one image on his page to show his so very superior photography. Don't let the b*&^%#@s grind you down :=}

I love this, heather - very nostalgic and well-done. Great use of color and perfect expression on the model.

Thank you all so much! I really appreciate all of the suggestions and I will definitely keep them in mind for further shoots! I know that some critiques are not easy to hear, but you just have to pick out the grains of knowledge and leave the rest. Honestly I appreciate the lovers and the haters, they all make me grow! :D
