Island In The Sun

Loch Assynt, Sutherland, ScotlandLoch Assynt is a huge expanse of open water and has some interesting features. Ardvreck castle adorns one shore and about mid way up is a series of small islands which have dead and live Scots Pine trees on them which are highly photogenic. Unfortunately for me there had been bright hazy sun all day and the light was as flat as a pancake but I thought I might be able turn the haze to my advantage so instead of shooting with my back to the sun I opted to shoot straight into it usually a recipe for flare and poor quality. On this occasion it worked admirably.

Sunset into the light through thick haze enabled me to take this shot

without the usual flare problems that are often associated with

shooting into the sun. The pine islands adorn Loch Assynt.

I like the way the island appears seperated, sometimes you take a shot like this and the definition of the island is lost in the background. The silhouetted form of the island stands out well, I guess the haze from the sun enabled that too.
