I see that I'm at the end of a long line of admirers of this magnificent reflection photo.

It's the simplicity that makes it so strong.  I really like the face that the sky and reflection are just plain grey; they make the golden areas stand out beautifully.  And, of course, the stark black naked trees are also stunning.

The house just adds another element of interest and there's nothing to change in this view.

One of the nicest photos I have seen recently. What a magnificent spectacle. The hint of the mountain and stream in the background...the light and colours. Sincere congratulations. ( To my eyes looks as though it needs to go up on the right a tad, 4mm or so see if you like my version).

No worries, the background isn't clear with that glare, I have a couple of shots where the rays are only part visible that I might post at a later date.

Cheers Tony

Sincere thanks for your interest and invauable feedback. However there is no sky visible in this shot, the grey area that you refer to is a ray of light that all but obscures the mountain behind and just illuminates each side of the scene. Of course it is very difficult to see, but if you view the large version, you will just be able to make out a small stream and patches of the scene behind. It is not surprisng a few people have misread the image to some degree. I like the house myself, it allows me daydreams of owning it some day.

Thank you for your observations and positive feedback. Its very gratifying to read your comments. I do like the crop you made, it removes some of the less attractive trees that appear in a small cluster to the right of the house. I guess the reason I included them in the first place was to place the house further to the left of the image, however I can see that in your version it works very well being positioned to the extreme right too.

What a 'stunner' Alf. I know any words I use will 'echo' someone else, but do have to at least say 'something' !!!! Odd, I didn't even NOTICE the house at first, I just was in awe of the colour, light and reflections of the mountain sides.

You must be very pleased with this image Alf, I am thrilled for you!!!!

Sincere regards, Gail

Spectacular view, outstanding post processing! Reflection breakdown parallel composition and give nice perspective effect.

Alf, This becomes amazingly beautiful viewed larger, let me empasize that it must be viewed larger in order to appreciate the mountains behind the trees. The normal view makes the mountains look like wispy clouds from a wide-angle lens. Plus you also get to see the house and fence much better. Really nice image Alf.

The distribution of the light and the reflections have created a kind of symmetry to the image. The quality of light you have captured is superb Alf, well done.

GAIL

This is my dream location, the place I fantasise about. In my dreams I walk out of the little house in the morning and view the world with a new joy every day, untie my fishing boat, call Grace the dog and we set off on another adventure........ Well I can't live the dream, but I get to do the next best thing, photograph it !  And yes,  thats an affirmative, I am very pleased with this one Gail, and that in itself is something of a rarity these days.

I consider your views and comments individual Gail, being from someone that is so creative and appreciative of natural beauty.

Sincere Thanks & Best Regards

Alf

GRIGORIY

Many thanks for interest and thoughtful feedback, very much appreciated. There was hardly any post processing, a panoramic crop and a small amount of sharpening, a small increase in black, and that was it.

Yes I agree the larger view does bring it to life. I tend to optimise the images I upload for the larger size in order that viewers can see the same detail that I can.  The haze from the sun makes this a difficult one to read, so I think the closer view is a must here also. I'm really pleased you took the time to look and explore and even more pleased that you liked it.

Sincere Thanks & Best Regards

JIM

I was blessed with the light and relatively calm conditions on this beautiful morning, it kind of made up for the other dozen times I've driven the 270 miles round trip when it was windy and didn't look half as good.

Thank you so much for your interest and positive feedback.

Best Regards

Alf

JOHN

Yes, you nailed the description, it was indeed the "distribution" of light that was key to the image working. The suns haze effectively blocked the view of the mountains behind the trees, whilst at the same time it illuminated the converging slopes. As I mentioned about, I was overdue for some good conditions.  Sincere thanks for your interest and thoughtful feedback John.

Cheers!

"Yep another fantastic image from you Alf. I'm really liking the light in this image, a brilliant perspective of this lake. Viewing this image in large format is a must. I just can't believe how tranquil the scene is, I feel like I'm there. You truly are a great landscape photographer, this is very well done in my eyes Alf, kind regards Grant.

Sincere thanks for your well considered thoughts and observations, much appreciated!

This isn't the first time I've taken a photograph of this place, and it is another favourite place of mine, but I've never witnessed the light quite like this before, I stood mesmerised watching it develop as it illuminated first the RH slope and slowly the LH side too, I did take a few others during this process which I will post at a later date.

Cheers!

Many Thanks for your vote of confidence, I'm really glad you liked it!

ANABELA

Yes, I agree the prevailing light was the key to the image, I have taken shots of the scene with a just normal daylight and it always looks good, but the selective illumination of the slopes made this one stand out.

Sincere Thanks & Best Regards

Alf

BOBBY

Indeed the view is wonderful, and even if I wasn't busy taking photographs just being there and looking at the scene is a joy.

Many Thanks & Kind Regards

Sincere Thanks,

Two words "Symmetry & Light" and I guess that sums up the impact of the image, I wish I'd thought of it as a title : - )

Beautiful & sublime photo, Alf. The delicate strips of light are really lovely & the subtle color palette is very pleasing to the eye.... The setting has a bit of a glacier feeling somehow. I bet that this one would look great enlarged... :-) Best regards, Marjolein

Thank you for stopping by and sharing your thoughts and observations, very much appreciated. I was rather fortunate with the light, but then I suppose it makes up for the other half dozen trips when it was lousey : - )

Cheers Richard!

Thank You , Thank You!  : - ) The central composition seemed to be the right choice, with the reflections it added to the dynamics of the scene.

KEITH

It was one of those days, you just had to be there, the combination of calm water and radiant light was a recipe that even I couldn't mess up : - )

Sincere Thanks  & Best Regards

MARJOLEIN

This place rates near the top of my favourite locations in the UK it's just a shame thats its 150 miles away from my home.  This is about the 4th attempt in recent months to get a decent shot, every other time it has proved too windy. You are right about the Glacier, the whole area is full of lakes that are courtesy of the last Ice Age.   Sincere thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback Marjolein, much appreciated!

Best Regards

Alf

aesthetic, subtle, and balanced - the shadows of the slope rising above the lake at 12'o clock complete the image
