tore 10 Posted April 1, 2012 I love the "flow" in the lines, the composition is spot on and the light support it in great way.Great work.Best regards Tore Link to comment
ndj 0 Posted April 1, 2012 Gorgeous lighting in this beautiful shot Alf! Love the convergence you've got going in this one! It could be an optical illusion, but it looks to me that the horizon is dipping to the right. brilliant work! All the best,Neil Link to comment
daveinwilton 1 Posted April 2, 2012 Beautiful image Alf. I agree with Neil though, I think the image is skewed clockwise a hair. I love how everything converges in the center. Best regards...-Dave Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted April 2, 2012 RAJATI was very fortunate to encounter the light in that particular situation, it was just a matter of waiting until it illuminated both sides to create the the perceived balance. Many Thanks & Best RegardsAlfTOREThank you so much for your thoughts and observations. The calm flat water was also just what was needed for this shot.Best RegardsAlfNEILGood to hear from you I hope you are keeping well! You are right there does seem to be a very slight dip to the right, I'm wondering if it is a perception as the lake bends round to the right, but I will straighten it on the original version anyway. Glad you liked this one.Sincere Thanks & Best RegardsAlfDAVEMany Thanks for stopping by and sharing your thoughts, much appreciated. Yes I think there is a dip to the right (see above) I think that 50 / 50 dividing line works because of the convergance you mention.Cheers Dave!Alf Link to comment

jim_air 0 Posted April 5, 2012 Wow - huge impact, Alf !! (viewed large of course). Can't imagine any better light.Thought I would google Buttermere, which I correctly surmised would be in the Lake District. On the website "http://www.google.co.nz/search?q=buttermere&hl=en&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=IFF9T9yXKoi0iQfwypGXCQ&ved=0CEEQsAQ&biw=1920&bih=908", there are so many photos that I could still be here at midnight (just under 4 hours left here in NZ).Really enjoyed looking at this. Must show Judy later !Best wishesJim Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted April 6, 2012 Sincere thanks for your interest and positive feedback, I really appreciate your expert opinions.Best RegardsAlfJIMThere must be hundreds of photographs of this iconic scenery, but I think I got lucky with the light and the calm water. The round trip for me to this area is about 280 miles, and this was the 4th trip to try and catch it right. I did get some shots on the other ocassions too, but on this trip everything just come together. I'm really pleased you enjoyed viewing it Jim and I hope Judy will enjoy it too.Sincere Thanks & Best Regards to you bothAlf Link to comment
Margo_Wade11664880111 0 Posted April 7, 2012 Definitely worth shooting again! Love the reflections and the way the lighted hills appear to embrace the viewer. Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted April 9, 2012 Thank you so much for your thoughts and positive feedback. This places changes with the hours of the day and the seasons of the year, but the scenery is frequently magnificent. One of my favourite places in fact, so no doubt I'll be back to do it all again and try and improve on the previous.Best RegardsAlf Link to comment
richygale 0 Posted April 9, 2012 Beautifully composed image Alf I'm sure its all been said above, but great work.I feel inspired to go out and shoot.Rich. Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted April 9, 2012 I've no need to tell you what an inspiration the Lake District is, your portfolio is proof enough, and of course William Wordsworth couldn't have been wrong either! A calm day and nice lighting works wonders!Sincere Thanks & Best RegardsAlf Link to comment
patrickwells 2 Posted April 11, 2012 AlfI enjoyed Past Time The lighting in it is superb. I do believe tho that I like this one (of the trilogy) the best. It is so peaceful and restful. It has a calming effect that the other two don't. It would be a great one to have hanging where It could be enjoyed and meditated on after a hectic dayPat Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted April 12, 2012 Many Thanks for taking the time to look through the trilogy and leave your thoughtful comments, much appreciated!I agree with your analogy, this image does represent a more tranquil scene than the other two. Maybe the reason for this is the near flat calm reflection seen here, when on the other two there is a stronger suggestion of breeze rippled water. I hear what your saying about "meditation" maybe I should hang it on my office wall and look at it when I get one of those annoying phone calls : - )Best RegardsAlf Link to comment
tibig 0 Posted April 13, 2012 The light is simply amazing. The composition has something "cosmic" in it, it kind of "sucks you in" to deep space and yet it is so earthly! I like it a lot.Regards, Tibi Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted April 15, 2012 I have to say it was unlike any kind of light I've experienced before. The sun was peering just over the top left of the mountain behind and illuminating the space between the trees and the back of the mountain, whilst filling the void with a haze that makes it almost impossible to see beyond. Sincere Thanks for your thougtful comments, much appreciated!Alf Link to comment

Guest Guest Posted April 19, 2012 This is a landscape photographers dream shot, amazing location and light ,i'll be visiting the lakes early May,i will try and find the your tripod footprints on the west shore of the lake, excellent work,my regards and compliments Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted April 20, 2012 You will find the footprints 20 yards to the right of that big old tree : - ) The change in the light in the short time I was there was quite amzing, but I also spoke with another photographer on my last visit and he informed me that the changes continue throughout the year, so I guess I'll be back too.Sincere thanks for your thoughtful comments.Best RegardsAlf Link to comment
ulla 0 Posted August 29, 2012 Ohh, your understanding and capturing of the nature it's breath taking. It's another perfect photo so still and soft and clear. I am speechless! Regards, Ulla P.s.: I guess we all have to thank your son in law, so that we can enjoy this beautiful photos! Thank you and thank him for all the pleasure! Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted August 29, 2012 Sincere Thanks for your interest and thoughtful comments, very much appreciated. I have to admit this particular trip to the Lake District proved very fruitful, the light was nothing like I had seen before or since at this location. You are so right about my son in law, just recently I come second in a national photographic competition, and I mentioned to him that he must have taught me well. He was very modest about it because thats the way he is, but I am still in awe of his work! Best Regards Alf Link to comment

alfbailey 3 Posted April 14, 2013 Many Thanks for your interest and thoughtful comments.I am told that the light only falls like this on a couple of ocassions each year, and even then there is no guarantee that it will coincide with the lake being calm, I was most fortunate to be in the right place at the right time.Best Regards Alf Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted November 6, 2013 The 50/50 split kind of simplicity can be effective. Many Thanks Alf Link to comment
