charliecrusan 0 Posted March 8, 2012 Amazing photo. I personally prefer the centered horizon because you really capture the character of the clouds, mountains, and the water. -Charlie Link to comment
alfbailey 4 Posted March 9, 2012 I love the cool blue tones that convey the cold and glimpses of warmer lights conveying the promise of a more hospitable environment indoors. Nicely detailed long exposure and captivating scenery.Sincere ComplimentsAlf Link to comment
Karl Schuler 48 Posted March 9, 2012 Excellent dramatic scenery, beautiful mix of natural light and artificial lighting. I suggest to crop about 15% from the right side and a bit from top and bottom. This would give a more balanced picture and increase the impact of the essential parts of the village and the mountains. Karl Link to comment
llgarcia 1 Posted March 9, 2012 The majesty of the landscape is nicer to look at in the enlarged version. Beautiful landscape! Link to comment

stp 6 Posted March 10, 2012 A photograph at dusk that still looks like dusk -- nicely done with a perfect exposure. It appears to be very quiet, very cold, and very peaceful. Link to comment
AlainD 0 Posted March 10, 2012 Thanks a lot to all of you for your nice comments!Karl: I hesitated quite a long time during post-processing to cut the right part of the image. I agree that the image would really be better balanced. The problem is that I didn't feel like croping the top and the bottom and at the same time wanted to keep the 3x2 format, so I didn't crop the right part. Your comment makes me wonder if I took the right decision... I'll make some crop tests tomorrow and maybe repost the image. Thanks a lot for the input! Link to comment

stp 6 Posted March 10, 2012 Alain, I'm looking at the crop suggestion provided by Karl, and I think you have plenty of room to make a small crop on top (especially) and bottom. I hope you'll do a comparison for yourself (and perhaps post it for feedback). Link to comment
AlainD 0 Posted March 11, 2012 Above is a new cropped version. It will be visible in a few hours I guess.Below is the original version. Thanks for your suggestions! Link to comment
stp 6 Posted March 13, 2012 Same here. It seems to me that the right side has two elements that really dictate where the edge ought to go. One is the second small peak to the right of the main peak, and the other is the long, dark building directly below that small peak. These both seem like natural dividing lines, and you want to leave just enough room so that they don't feel crowded. Your placement works very well, and you even have a bit of wiggle room if you like. To my eye, you still have room on top if you'd rather have more water and less sky. I think you could move the frame down, perhaps removing up to 50% of the sky that currently shows, and I don't think the peak would look crowded. It just depends on what you want to emphasize. Your new crop really puts the viewer's eyes on the village, and there are no relatively empty spaces. Nicely done. Link to comment

drhimages 0 Posted March 11, 2013 I agree...love the blue tones, Alain. It just adds to the feeling of how cold it probably was. The lights add the perfect amount of warmth to this cold dramatic scene. Love the mountains and reflections too. Beautiful!!! Link to comment
