alfbailey 4 Posted February 21, 2012 I like the sumptuous bands of colour and texture that start with the water and end with the sky, creating an almost abstract pattern. I would consider cropping the very uppermost portion of the image where the diagonal portion of cloud appears in order to retain the pattern and flow of the image, and there does appear to be a few dust spots or possibly bits of debris in the water that you might want to clone out. But overall it is a delight to view.Best RegardsAlf Link to comment
stp 6 Posted February 22, 2012 Wonderful colors and a very nice composition. I think Alf makes a good point about the sky. When I scroll the image up on my monitor to where the clouds start in the upper right corner, I really like the more uniform look -- it fits the peacefulness of the overall photograph better, IMO. The reflection of the sky on the water is great, and I like the deep blue going to black at the bottom of the frame. Link to comment
dustinbise 0 Posted February 22, 2012 Thank you for the critique. I didnt think to crop it the first time through in post, but you are both correct. Yes, there is also some dust spots. I must have uploaded the wrong file, as i have addressed those in the PSD. I will def re-crop before i go to print. Thank you for the kind words. Link to comment
jerrymat 5 Posted February 22, 2012 Hi Dustin, I live in Edmonds, WA so my similar pictures are usually of sunsets over the Olympic Mts. It looks to me that your sunrise pics look a little cleaner than my sunsets. I suppose that is because of the cooler nights and dustier days. I like your picture very much. Just one suggestion. Have you tried a horizontal format? There are so many horizontal lines that a horizontal frame might emphasize them better.Regards,Jerry Matchett Link to comment
dustinbise 0 Posted February 22, 2012 I did not shoot it horizontal. I was racing agaisnt the sun and was actually on a coast guard jetty when I took this. Just after I got the expouser I was politely asked to leave, which comes with the territory I guess. I shoot with a d70, so the resolution of my camera doesnt really allow me to make a good horizontal crop out of a vertical image. In addition, there was some distracting elements out of the frame. I do see what you are saying though. Thanks for the critique. Link to comment
