Perfect. The composition and your work on the colors is outstanding.

His ears might be just a tad red but.. it was cold, right?

Sincere Thanks, the composition kind of worked out well I had a 70 - 300 mm lens on the camera set at 70mm and rather than changing it I just walked backwards until the trees fitted into the frame.  Yeah it was freezing cold, the sun didn't penetrate the fog all day, but the red ears were more a result of my incessant last minute meddling than the temperature.

Cheers Steve!

Many thanks for your interest and kind words, much appreciated. Of course this one was very much a set up shot, but that doesn't seem to detract from the overal mood.

What a beautifully composed image Alf, framed to perfection. Fantastic lighting, the fog covering the ghostly trees, the rule of thirds, and the very airy feeling that work's so well with me. It's one of those images that the more you look at it the more you see, which has to be a good thing. a great image with great atmosphere, well done. Regards Grant.

I'm really pleased you liked this one. It was a spur of the moment thing, we were walking back to the car after photographing Deer and I noticed the empty bench, it was then just a case of persuading my friend to sit on the icy surface while I took the shot : - ) Many thanks for your encouraging words and feedback!

Hi Alf, This is a picture that I want to view many times, so into my favorites it goes. My word for the shot is determination. Regardless of the weather he is going to stay right there until he sees or feels what he came for. (Ignoring the fact that you asked him to be there) In fact the weather has no effect on him because he loves the outdoors and nature so much that it is not a factor. In my experience we can become overwhelmed by the beauty of nature so that creature comfort doesn't matter very much. We all need alone time once in a while and he is not lonely, just re-charging. Yes, this is an optimist's view of your picture. Thanks for sharing.

Sincere Thanks for your thoughtful observations and positive feedback.

I do like your "optimistic" analogy and in fact you are so every astute, because the figure in the image does indeed love the outdoors and the beauty of nature. I also find that sometimes, its good to just put the camera to one side, and drink in the surroundings, those few moments can often prove very beneficial in how we view the next shot, it's like stepping outside yourself momentarilly, you are able see things in a different light.

I'm very pleased you liked this one Deanna, and very honoured you consider it a favourite.

Best Regards

This is an excellent, well conceived, image Alf! Love the introspective mood you've achieved here! Nicely done guy!

All the best,

It was set up of course, albeit spontaneously, but it conveyed the mood as intended.

This is a beautifully produced picture and it's obvious I'm not the only one that thinks so; it took me a day and half to scroll to the bottom so that I could leave my tardy comment. The processing is perfectly handled here to create an atmosphere of solitariness in the lap of splendor.

Thank you for your visit and invaluable feedback.  Your "tardy" comments are nonetheless very welcome : - )  It does seem to have captured peoples imagination this one, even though it was staged to a degree, the bench looked empty so I asked my friend to sit on the cold frosty surface while I took a shot.......well what are friends for eh?

Sincere Thanks & Best Regards

Hi Alf-Well,contrived or not, this fine image is more than a photograph, but one that makes the viewer pause & ponder who is the man sitting at the bech & what is he thinking & how long will he sit on the bench. Regards-Ross

Many Thanks for your thoughtful observations and positive feedback.

Of course he didn't sit on the bench for long, it was freezing. But I do know what you mean, the impression of thoughtful contemplation is very strong in this image.

Enchanting, inspiring and visually compelling.  This is what photography is all about and you are such a master at this craft.

You are very kind, and I thank you for your thoughtful comments!  The fog and the empty bench brought about the inspiration to try this one, and I immediately asked my friend to pose. A bit spontaneous, but it worked.

Hi Alf- Took me me forever to reach the bottom of your comments & discovcering I had already commented on this fine image.Well, not quitting now, going to c.omment further.I can relate to this gentleman sitting so still .Doubt if they are happy thoughts as the surroundings are not conductive to pleasant thoughts. Believe all older men go thru stages of being slightly depressed,, sitting still like this gentleman, questioning past decisions concerned about the future & wondering what the future holds. But, after a period, shakes his head&,"don't be silly , get up & go,you'll be OK. .End of story. Also, you have great old trees in England. Best Regards-Ross

Hi Ross

I quite like your analogy of a slightly depressed man, sat pondering the future, and maybe the past. But in reality this shot was set up.  The guy sitting there is one of the best photographers I know, and we were out taking a few shots on a foggy day when I asked him to pose for a minute on the cold frosty bench. He very sportingly obliged and this was the result. Yes, we do indeed have some wonderful trees.

Sincere Thanks & Best Regards

Hi ALF- Well, here I go again, from time to time I enjoy visiting this fine image.Have finally discovered the perfect lyrics to match your image:

I felt it all over, Lord knows I tried

It is an awful awakening, In a country boy's life,

To look in the mirror, In total surprise,

At the hair on the shoulder, And the age in your eyes

From Don Williams Anthology #1

So happy I finally discovered Don Williams. You mentioned in you comments on my image, Old Homes that you wondered how it would appear as a B&W..I posted a B&W yesterday & would appreciate your comments.it is in my file, Latest Postings Very Best Regards-Ross

Apologies for my late response!  have been away fro a few days on holiday.

The lyrics are indeed a wonderful addition to the image and entirely in mood and keeping with the sentiments therein. I am so glad that you found them and that you still enjoy re-visiting this one.

I would of course be only too pleased to view the B & W versions of the old homes you have photographed.

Many Thanks Ross
