Hi Phil,

Lovely picture of a beautiful duck. You can see all the ripples in the water, and the small droplets on the top of its head. The more I photograph ducks, the more I appreciate their beauty and variety.

best regards Per

Per,

I really appreciate your thoughts on this one.  I had a somewhat difficult time getting this shot.  There were several of them in the water and they spent virtually all their time swimming with their heads in the water, feeding I would assume.  When they raised up, it was only for a fraction of a second.  Finally I got this one when he had his head up for long enough to get the shot.  I agree they are very beautiful birds.  Regards

A while ago, several of these Northern Shovelers (males) were at the

local pond, swimming with their heads in the water. I assume they

were feeding. I had a difficult time getting a shot of one with his

head out of the water, but finally had success!

Hi Grayham,

Thank you very much for the gracious words!  Yes, sometimes its really a challenge, but I guess that's what we all really enjoy.  I remember your comments about crawling on your stomach to get shots of some pelicans :-)

Beautiful capture Phil! All my waterfowl shots are tossers, so it's nice to see such a great example. Lovely colours in the duck, and the water is electric! Focus looks tack sharp and great exposure control. Superb!

Hi, Phil,

This must be seen in a larger format to appreciate all the detail. The ripples around it are magnificent, as well as the overall tones.

BR,

Ramon.
