I missed this one earlier Alf! This is a lovely shot that has plenty of appeal to me. I think the 50/50 split was an excellent call. Love the high key look to the frosted area. It gives the trees an ethereal look to them. Nicely done guy!

All the best,
Neil

Just a terrific find and interpretation of the scene.  I find Tony's suggestion to have merit but it only adds to a wonderfully seen image on your part. Thank you for your time and kind comments recently, best regards, rek.

a wonderful image, with a rare light very well worked. when you will print it, you'll choose the best solution. photos are very different at screen or on paper. the details on the darken areas are anyway important, i think. only a little suggestion, i tried to to desautorate the green. i always noted how the greens with digitals cameras looks a little bit innatural. i call it "effect chernobyl".... bravo, rare to see a landscape like this

Wonderful image with beautiful light and colours. Another strong work with reflection, I like it a lot. To me the composition works, perhaps even more crop from top that the "horizon" will be in the very centre.

I can't add anything to what has already been said . I agree with the crits. and suggestions ( well most of them ) . It is still a great shot as is , one to be proud of . Bill

NEIL

I'm really glad it come across as intended, it was one of those images that I liked, but wasn't sure anyone else would. Thanks for your thoughts and positive feedback, mmuch appreciated!

Thanks for your enthusiastic support, much appreciated. Tony does have a superb eye for colour. This particular scene did have a colour cast as shot, but I was reluctant to alter it too much in case it lost some of the mood, but Tony did a great job.

ANDREAS

Yes you are right, I am fortunate that people have offered so many alterantives I can now choose the best combination for printing, could be my camera has beein too close a proximity to Nuclear Power Station : - )

Sincere Thanks for your interest and thoughtful suggestions.

JAMIE

I know what I call the wind, but it isn't anything remotely like "Mariah" and I shall refrain from typing its name for fear that someone might report me for abusing the elements : - )

Seriously though, the wind does bring its own opportunities, I  just don't like it!

Cheers Jamie

GUNNAR

I suspect you are right about the central positioning for the crop, that was originally my intention, but somehow I got sidetracked, so much to do, so little time : - )

Many Thanks your thoughts and observations Gunnar, very much appreciated!

BILL

This is one I liked, but had doubts that anyone else would, it's very gratifying to read that others see the same kind of qualities in it that I did, and went to the trouble of making comments and suggestions.

Sincere thanks for your interest and positive feedback Bill.

Apart from the obvious I particularly like a few details, the green hedge going the length of the photo, the light fawn grass or plants at the waters edge and the fallen trees. They all give an extra touch to the image.

Very well done !

Many Thanks for your observations and thoughtful comments, very much appreciated.

The hedge that you refer to is a moss covered stone wall, though it's difficult to make out with it all being covered in frost, and there is another stone wall barely visible amongst the trees further up. The waterside vegetation I think are grasses, it is interesting that you picked out a couple of the more subtle aspects of the image that also appealed to me.

Cheers Jim!

Many Thanks for your interest and positive feedback. It was the reflections and the "chorus line" of trees that first attracted me to take the shot.

maaany comments already - still, unless I missed it while reading too fast, one problematic aspect from my point of view has not been mentioned: the tops of line of trees merge too much with the trees in background. I'd love to see them better separated from background. Admittedly, I don't see any good solution to this (besides excessive editing...). On the plus side: it's a proof of reality - strengthening the effect of colours - which are amazing! Especially soft purple hues vs. white of snow and green line of the hedge. "Frosty Friends" really suits to the atmosphere.

I think you nailed it right there, "SEPERATION" is something I always preach, or at least reccomend, yet it simply wasn't possible in this situation. Ideally the field of frost would have had a wider expanse to acccomodate the tree tops and would have made a reasonable shot something more spectacular, but alas we have to contend with what nature provides. I'm wondering if there is any better definition in the springtime when the first touches of bright green shoots are evident on the tree tops, maybe I'll go back and see : - )

Sincere Thanks for your imput and thoughtful observations Wolfgang.

I do like the composition and color palette, the interplay of fresh green and kind of purple is very pleasing.

I read part of the critiques (to many to read them all to be honest). The placing of the shore-line is fine with me, the snow is indeed just a bit overexposed.

Many thanks for your thoughtful observations, much appreciated.

I tend to agree, it didn't look over - exposed on the larger version but it definately does here, I think it could be a result of my "fine tuning" the frost before posting.

Very interesting spot to be photographed, you did excellent job here. I specially like the reflected reciprocal contrasty color and tones in each side of water surface, creating nice surreal, although natural, feel. A nice shot. Bravo.

Hamid.

I agree the reflected colours do give a surreal impression, I thought they looked like a painters brush strokes. It was an interesting shot, I wasn't sure if it would appeal to viewers but it seems to. Many Thanks for your imput and invaluable feedback, much appreciated.
