briany 0 Posted June 14, 2003 I think the panorama format has a lot of potential, and I commend you for doing a very nice job with the stitching. That said, I wanted to like this picture more than I do. Unfortuantely I just don't see much interesting :-( There's not enough that I can see in the middle of the frame to hold my interest there, so my eye goes to the left, where the brigther objects are. Again, the rocks and dead wood don't really hold my interest. I then look right, and aesthetically I like it more--the small rocks dotting the lush greean make for an interesting foreground, and the tree has a nice visual weight at its distance. Though I'm not a fan of rules, I think the horizon should be on a third here. Either give us some more dramatic sky, or give us more ground, going close to our feet (hopefully with something interesting there too). I do really like the colors of this shot and feel that they all blend together nicely. Link to comment
kai_compagner 0 Posted June 14, 2003 I like this panorama, Wayne. There's interest in the foreground, middle ground, and the distance. I'd whish I could see a little more detail in the tree trunk on the left. Link to comment
paulfisher 0 Posted June 15, 2003 I like this one a lot. The centre of the image holds the view down to the farm in the valley, with the table-top hills beyond. All this is nicely framed by the trees and rock at the left & right edges. Very good composition to my eye. Link to comment
1000wordsphotography 0 Posted June 15, 2003 The softly arching clouds tie this all together for me. It seems to go on and on, so many layers, a feast for the eye. Link to comment
barnnies 0 Posted June 15, 2003 I like this. Panarama shots are nice. thanks for sharing. Link to comment
kulo_rajasekaran 0 Posted June 15, 2003 Well composed, nice skies, pretty good sharpness. The trunk on the left is not very sharp in my monitor. I am not sure if this is a .jpg issue or if the picture itself is soft. The scene is not very aesthetic however though. i.e. I wont blow this up in my family room. The fact is the picture is very cool, but something is missing. Link to comment
andrew_grant 0 Posted June 15, 2003 Interesting composition and a good use of a panoramic format. The only slight flaw I can see is the branch in the top left of the image. Link to comment
uwestiens 0 Posted June 17, 2003 Lovely photo Wayne! I like it a lot more than your first version'The Ridge' a vew weeks ago. This one gives you more view into the distance. I carefuly read Brian Y's comment and I have to agree with his opinion about the rule of thirds. I'd like a bit more foreground here. But I disagree with him about the centre. The paddock with a farm, than the woodlands and in the far distance , that must be the Grampians, are just wonderful. I hope we will see some more of your panoramas. Your folders are just stunning. Well done mate. Link to comment
panoramas 0 Posted June 17, 2003 Thanks Aussie Uwe.Your comments are always welcome. I live in Ararat where I teach Media and English. I follow the rule horizontally here and took a lot of trouble in the 1C temp. to get the balance. Vertically and horizontally I see the thirds rule often meaning "a third here and two-thirds there" and I believe third, third, third is often preferable. I shot this for rocks, then green to horizon, and feathery cloud sky: three sections. I'm very attracted to layering in panoramas. I guess the other thing I'd say is that most of these are four, five and six frames stitched, not crops of a single frame, nor a near 2 frame X-pan. I take them in the hope that someone or me likes the shot enough to go for a 1000mm or larger print on photo paper -- then the true detail comes out. The photonet thumbnail format, while necessary, restricts panoramas. Regards Wayne Link to comment
