tom_menegatos 0 Posted June 14, 2003 I wanted to try something different with a photo of the bouquet as it looked so nice where it was sitting. Wondering what people think about using people as the out of focus background to a still life. I took this one more for myself mostly. Just a little dodging and buring to increase the emphasis. guenther_dirks 0 Posted June 14, 2003 I like it. For me, the out of focus "effect" of the couple leads to a soft and warm mood (I hope you can understand the english translation of my german thoughts ;-). The only problem is white color of the bouquet. Although the bouquet is in focus and nearly centered, it doesn't really get my eyes' attraction. The white color of the bouquet and the light brown of the wall only make a light contrast. But you are not the florist, you are the photographer. Nevertheless, I like it. Guenther Link to comment
rich_evans 0 Posted June 16, 2003 Tom - I think this is a great idea - really gives some drama to the otherwise stock scene. In order to pump up the drama a bit more, I would have used a wider lens to get closer to the bouquet and still keep all of the principles in the photo. It would have also had the effect of enlarging the flowerpiece. I like this alot. --Rich Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted June 16, 2003 You have pre-empted any comments about the 'out of focus' people by saying it was deliberate. I agree with the others! This works well. However I can't help feeling that the comments would have been far more interesting if you hadn't explained before hand what you were trying to do. A nice picture! Well done. Please feel free to rate / comment on / critique any of my photos! Link to comment

tom_menegatos 0 Posted June 16, 2003 David, I thought about not putting a description in and just leaving the title as the only descriptive element. But I didn't want any confusion and wanted to find out what people thought of the image I meant to take, not something someone thought was a focussing mistake :) Link to comment
g1 0 Posted October 21, 2003 Taste and preferential bias obviously influences all rates/comments on PN, but for me this is your best work. It's different in perspective, approach, and lends an air of mystique to the viewer. The bouquet has superceded the people, and that in itself is an unusual take, and I like inanimate objects that 'come to life' in this way. Some space for the imagination to work on too (with the out of focus subjects) and curiosity is stimulated about possible stories/scenarios of the day, as well as current interaction. Composition, exposure and light is also very appealing, more so than a carefully controlled studio set-up. I really like this. Link to comment
tomfawlsphotography 0 Posted May 17, 2004 I think this is a great shot. The focus on the boquet as it sits here is unique to wedding shots. You've turned what is all too often a boring set shot into true art. Well done. Link to comment
