jim_manganella 0 Posted January 27, 2012 I cannot believe that at this point in your ratings you have a 3.83 with 6 ratings. This is why I no longer submit photos for ratings on photo.net anymore. It deserves 6-7. This is an outstanding photo! Link to comment
jerrymat 5 Posted January 28, 2012 Jon-Michael, This is a well exposed and posed image. I do have mixed feelings about the single shadow crossing her eye on camera right. I can't help feeling that if she had looked directly into the camera (and therefore at us viewers) this might move from a good photo to a spectacular one.My regards,Jerry Link to comment
JohnWebster 3 Posted January 28, 2012 Jim Manganella, I agree that a rating without an explanation is of little value. I believe anyone interested in improving their photography would do well to google what makes for a merit-worthy photograph. Ignorant criticism or praise is empty of information a serious photographer needs to advance his craft and vision. I would rate the above photo a 5 for expression and overall impact. The theatrical quality of the main light forms a sharp nose shadow like many a Hollywood glamor portrait. The over-exposed part of her sweater is slightly distracting--but then the RGB levels on her left cheek are a bit "hot" (R=254, G=228, B=216) and yet it does seem to work well pushing as much dynamic range into the image as possible. Removing the hair strand over her left eye would have me scoring this a 6. Link to comment
JohnWebster 3 Posted January 28, 2012 I should have said that I removed the shadow of the hair strand from her face. Link to comment
