cmitchell 2 Posted January 21, 2012 Wonderful subject matter and great light. I'm having a problem reconciling the foreground which looks like b&w and the background mountains and clouds which look like very under-saturated color. I'm sure it was just the light that day but I would do the whole thing in b&w and dodge some of the highlights in the mountains and clouds. Wonderful landscape and composition. Link to comment
stp 6 Posted January 22, 2012 I really like the light and the composition. I can imagine this as a shot with little processing, although I don't know for sure if that was the case. The foreground looks like my backyard right now: ice on top of snow, which really reflects the light and comes across as B&W. The background looks like very diffuse and scattered sunlight. It's the background that I'm less certain regarding the degree of processing. Personally, I like the contrast in light and color between the foreground and background, partly perhaps because I've experienced conditions like this several times in the past. If I didn't have this in my experience, I'd agree with Christine that is looks like a B&W in front of a desaturated color portion. In think Mother Nature did most of the work here, perhaps with a little help from Taylan, but I'm not certain. [For someone like me to whom process is a component of the photograph, that unknown is unsettling, but it doesn't detract from the photograph.] Link to comment
