I think the posts alone would have made a great shot, the inclusion of the bird is a bonus! The gradually diminishing visibility is a crucial element in this very atmospheric shot. I think there might be another shot too (which of course you may have already seen) but if the first five posts to the left were isolated, it would make a very nice minimilistiic image.

Thanks for the kind words, Alf.  The bird was a nice surprise for me too. :-)

Regarding the more minimalist composition, I actually took one (it's called, creatively, '5 Posts', and is in this same gallery), but may want to re-visit it as the crop and tone don't convey the same atmosphere as this one does.

You are quite right, although it is a lovely photo "5 posts" doesn't convey the same atmosphere. The reflections are slightly clipped and the tones are warmer. Maybe just crop 50% vertically from centre of this one : - )
