Pnina, indeed in Hebrew this bird is called מגלן חום but it's English name is glossy ibis (scientific name plegadis falcinellus). As for the black and white, well it is not a black and white image. I tried to do it into black and white but there are subtle shades of blue in the water that I decided worth preserving.

I am glad you like the image. It was taken at Agamon Hula.

Regards, Tibi

Thanks ,you are right about the bluish tint! I have photgraphed it in" captivity"at   the zeology garden, it is a very interesting bird.

Tibi...  While this guy is probably perfectly happy, I always think fishing birds look lonely in their solitary pursuit of food.  The silhouette quality here accentuates that feeling.  Good shot... Mike

Pnina,

Thanks for the additional photo.

Mike,

Indeed the bird looks solitary but on the other hand who does not sometimes?

Thanks for the attentive comment,

Tibi

Me gusta el aspecto monocromo. Bonita imagen. Tal vez sería bueno recortar un poco por arriba. Buen trabajo. Saludos.

I like the silhouetted bird with the one leg lifted, a classic kind of pose, what I find interesting also, is the narrow depth of field that is measurable in the foreground and background along with the very subtle tones. A very pleasing image!

Best Regards

Jose,

Thanks, I'm glad you like it.

Alf,

The shallow DOF is a result of using the 70-300 lens (the one that you know) with an 1.4x teleconverter. It works pretty well, though it ends up a bit less sharp that without it.
