This is a really great shot and I am not a bird guy. The tonal range you have brought out is really beautiful and the intensity of the head position, wing span, etc., all works really well. I like the fact the bird is not centered because for me it adds to the sense of foreboding in this image. Good stuff.

thanks greg for your great comments , im glad you like the picture. It was one about 2500 images it took on the same outing. you nearly always see these images in colour and they look great but  i wanted to be different so decided so to convert this one . In PS i used the red filter preset to darken the blue sky which really popped the bird out from the backround. I finished off with nik silver effex using the zone system to even out exposure on the bird. For me personally the key to this image was initial capture and retaining detail in the bird helped by kepping a very close eye on the histogram at all times. thanks again Rodney
