Beautiful image with very nice composition. At first glance I thought that the

image is underexposed...then I observed the little hut which is perfectly

exposed ! Well done.

Sincere regards & wish you a very happy & prosperous new year 2012.

Many Thanks for invaluable feedback and supportive cxomments, very much appreciated. It's really gratifying to read that the place comes alive for you as you view it. I couldn't hope for a better reception. I guess it's every photographers wish to communicate the mood, flavour  and atmosphere of the moment, and you just made this one come true. I'm really pleased you enjoyed it.

Warm Regards

Thats a difficult quotation to substantiate : - )

However I can see your point relating to a lighter shading, probably better balanced with small adjustment to brightness, selectively of course, I guess it's all subjective, but I like dull, sombre "moody" images. I listen to blues music too : - )

Cheers Jamie

JOHN

Theres a story behind this particular cottage. We photographed it for two years running under the illusion it was the famous "Black Rock Cottage" it was only when a friend posed the question "Wheres the black rock?" that we stopped and realised we had the wrong location, the right one being about 3 miles up the road.  But to be honest I think this one is every bit as charismatic as Black Rock.

Many Thanks for your help and advice during 2011 John and a Very Happy New Year to you.

We have so much rain in the uk, the only surprise is that the British people haven't evolved with webbed feet and gills!

Sincere thanks for all your help, information and suggestions and Very Best Wishes for 2012

Sincere thanks for your interest and invaluable feedback, much appreciated.

I think you might be in agreement with Jamie regarding the lighting, it might benefit from a slight tweek, leaving the cottage exposed as it is.

Happy New Year and Best Wishes for 2012.

Loved this shot the moment I looked at it Alf! Beautifully composed, gorgeous foreground, nice movement in the water, splendid scenery, and good light! What more could a photographer ask for! Superbly photographed and a joy to behold Alf!

Thank you so much for your inspirational comments, very much appreciated.

You are right though, what more could a photographer want! Scotland is just one of those places that seems to get more beautiful with the worsening of the weather.

I'm really pleased you enjoyed it Neil

Happy New Year my friend!

Best wishes for 2012, Alf. The photo is very good with the white house as a eye catcher. I also like the dept with the running water in the foreground and the distant mountains.

Alf,

Absolutely beautiful!  I assume from the foreground detail that you placed your tripod very close to the ground.  This extra effort, getting into the stream and carefully placing your tripod really paid off as this is an excellent composition.  The casual photographer will hand hold their camera at eye level and then wonder how on earth you ever got such a great shot.

Fantastic series!  Highly recommended.  I always used to start watching the first one, thinking "just one," but not be able to stop until the whole 4 1/2 hours was done.  best, j

Superb composition with great details. Looked at it in large. Very well done. I was in Scotland in sept. 2010 and I remember the mood so well.

Best wishes to you too on the new year.

When I watched Australian Master Chef One piece of information stayed in my mind and that is for a really great dish every single ingredient must play and clear part and complement the others (eg even the carrots).  As I view your image this comes back to me Alf, that here each and every part comes together to make a great photo(even without any carrots !  :) ).

A belated wish to you for all you wish yourself.  No doubt, we will be in for many treats to come, in viewing your images.

Best regards

Many thanks for your interest and invaluable feedback, much appreciated!

You are right of course, I had the tripod positioned, standing in the stream with me and the tripod at half height. The wide angle lens also helped in this respect giving that close up effect. Thankfully this time it wasn't too deep, last time I was in this location it was about 4ft deep.

Cheers Jim!

I will keep that in mind, I do like a bit of Sci-Fi, but don't really get much time to read these days, maybe I'll catch the TV series though.

YANNIK

Thank you so much for your kind words and feedback, much appreciated. The mood is very much a reflection of a typically Scottish November day. But it's a fantastic location for photography.

Best Wishes for 2012 and Kind Regards

JIM A

I love the analogy Jim, seldom, if ever, have my images been compared favourably to a beef stew or any other gastronomic delight :- ) and not a carrot to be seen!

I do hope you and your good lady wife are keeping well!

My sincere thanks for your thoughts and observations Jim, and my Very Best Wishes for 2012

Best Regards

Alf,

Second thought.  It would be more beautiful if you could brighten the two front hills a bit?  Just my opinion. Best regards,

Yes, you could be right, I think Jamie had similar thoughts regarding this particular aspect of the image.

Thank you for your consideration and feedback, much appreciated!

There are many nice things or elements seen in this wonderful image. The clouds give a foreboding mood of the scene. The lighting on the stones still shows evidence of remaining daylight. The white house at a distance is a pleasant element and the water movement adds dynamics to this image.

Beautiful scene and mood, Alf.

Great photo.

Many Thanks for your interest and invauable feedbcak, much appreciated.

This area of Scotland is a place that seemed to reveal ever more facades of its beauty at every turn of the light and with every passing of a cloud. I'm really pleased you enoyed viewing it Lester.

Many thanks for your kind words and observations, much appreciated. Yes you are right some Nikon lenses are reknowned as excellent landscape lenses. This particular model is rated amongst the top in wide angle lenses, even by Canon users. I find myself using the 24 - 70mm f2.8 lens fractionally more frequently though.

First of all, i learned a lot from so many useful talks about this beautiful shot, and then, the capture is bold for its amazing composition, in which the eye get lead through the entire scene in a regular classic basis, from below to right upper corner; and also for its magic diffuse masterful light control, dimmed focally at some foci. clever use of shutter speed created naturally looking, yet artistic movement effect at f/g. A nice shot for me. Bravo.

Many Thanks for your well considered feedback, very much appreciated. There are some subjects that you know just how you want to capture them the moment you see them, and this was the case with this one. I knew immediately that a shot from the stream would look effective, it was just a case of finding the right angle and shutter speed, it did take a couple of attempts.

Best Regards
