llgarcia 1 Posted November 30, 2011 There are many ways 'to skin a cat' so they say but your rendition of this well-photographed place tops them all. I too agree that that it was well worth the wait as far as the light on top of the mountain is concerned for it plays a vital role in the magnificence of this landscape.Technically perfect and those water flows are just as fantastic.Great, great landscape, AlfBest regards!Lester Link to comment
Larry_G1664882113 15 Posted November 30, 2011 Alf,Perfect - You really nailed the exposure. For sure, the image would not be the same without the warm light on the top of the mountain. Mostly, I am impressed with how you saw and visioned the image as an inclusive landscape. Many would have only shot the water - nice eye for art. How many different exposures did you try out to arrive at this one? Excellent.Best regards and thanks for your well considered comments on my images. Larry Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted December 1, 2011 MICHELYour imput, advice and observations are more than welcome at any stage and you invariably contribute a thoughtful and thorough analysis of the image along with sound practical advice, so my sincere thanks for doing so, it is always very much appreciated.I particularly like your perception of the more spiritual connotations of the image, I didn't properly consider this aspect of the image and your words have given me food for thought. I agree fully with your observation regarding the "cut off" cascade of water. It was with some regret that I did this, but there were some mitigating circumstances : - ) I was balancing my tripod on the very brink of the stream bed with about 4 - 5ft fall below, and if I tilted the camera down, I got bits of vegetation in the shot that I didn't want, also I was aware that didn't want to have the peak of the mountain too close to the edge at the top of the frame. I did at one point climb down to the stream bed, and although this allowed a better perspective of the falls, it wasn't a good angle to appreciate the rest of the terrain.Best RegardsAlfMARIMany Thanks for your interest and positive feedback, much appeciated! It is indeed a great place for quiet contemplation, the whole area is stunning.Best RegardsAlfTONY I must have made an impression with the last one too : - ) The interesting thing is by comparison, the processing on this one has been minimal.Sincere Thanks for your enthusiastic support Tony.Best RegardsAlfKEITHMany Thanks for your very generous comments and invaluable feedback, much appreciated! "all come to expect" No pressure then eh Keith : - )The light on the top of the peak was part luck and part timing, we visited the same spot the day before and it was just swathed in cloud.Cheers Mate!AlfSANDEEPThank you so much for your interest and positive feedback, much appreciated! The spots on the stones were another problem in terms of distraction and exposure, so it's good to know you find them appealing and a source of interest.Best RegardsAlfKALLOLA few words that say so much!My sincere thanks for sharing your thoughts.Best RegardsAlfA ARMANMany heartfelt thanks for your interest and positive feedback, very much appreciated. However this is not HDR, it is a single exposure. RAW file processed in lightroom, and jpeg modified slightly in PS with slight sharpening and saturation. But I'm very flattered you thought it was.Best RegardsAlfTAMARAThanks for stopping by this shot, you are so very kind!My photo's stem from nature and a very troubled mind!Oh yeah I see what you mean I am a poet ! : - )Seriously though........My Sincere Thanks!Warm RegardsAlfLESTER Wow! thats a very heartwarming critique to read from such a well respected photographer. I'm very humbled and speechless.....well almost : - )It just remains for me to offer my sincere thanks Lester.Best RegardsAlfLARRYMany thanks for your interest and well considered thoughts, much appreciated!I'm really pleased that you like composition, this iconic scene is usually shot with a landscape orientation, which is understandable given the vertical aspects of the image. But I wanted to offer a wider view, and be slightly different at least.I probably tried about 4 - 5 exposures before arriving at this one, at each interval checking the histogram and sharpness, then changing the exposure compensation slightly and / or the aperture, before taking the next shot. I suppose I could have just bracketed 3 -5 images and blended them, but there was quite a breeze and I didn't want to fiddle about matching elements that may have moved slightly. So this time I did it the hard way : - )Best RegardsAlf Link to comment
sarah_mcnulty 5 Posted December 1, 2011 Hi Alf. Great opportunist moment to capture the light, just right on the mountain. Great exposure and you have captured the water beautifully. A really lovely landscape image. I am moving house and won't have a broadband connection till early January next year (shock, horror!) but wish you and your loved ones a very happy xmas and new year! All the best. Sarah. Link to comment

John Peri 1,031 Posted December 3, 2011 Truly amazing work. The flow of both the water and the clouds give a feeling of continuity that contrasts beautifully with the solid anchor of the mountain. What a gorgeous scene, bravo. Link to comment

Many thanks for your thoughtful and enthusiastic supoort, very much appreciated.Best RegardsAlfRAYMOND Many thanks for your very positive feedback, much appreciated.Best WishesAlfJOHN RIt's always a challenge photographing such a well known scene, and as someone commented earlier, you can't just pop back the next day when the conditions are ideal, not unless you live round the corner. I just tried to make the best of what was available, and got lucky with the spot of light. Sincere Thanks for stopping by and for your invaluable feedback, much appreciated.Best RegardsAlfMAURIZIOMany thanks for your generous comments.Best WishesAlfHARRY Sincere Thanks for your thougtful comments and positive feedback. The location is off a side road and approx 200 yards walk through deep mud and boggy moorland, so not too bad in that sense, the difficult part was the 4 hour drive to that particular little road : - )Cheers Harry!AlfGUNNARMany thanks fo your interest and positive feedback, very much appreciated.Best RegardsAlfJOHN PWow! I'm truly flattered, thank you! The whole area is amazing, every turn of my head saw another photograph waiting to be taken, I can't get enough of the place. Sadly thats a fact........I can't, work and earning a living being the obstructive enemy.Cheers John!AlfHOLGER I think the success of an image can be measured with the way people connect with it, so your thoughtful comments are most gratifying for me to read.My Sincere Thanks.AlfTIBIMany Thanks for your interest and posiitve feedback. You may recall an image of this same location posted some 12 months previous, where you provided some interesting segmental area's of the composition. : - )Best RegardsAlf Link to comment
Pierre Dumas 272 Posted December 4, 2011 Heaven, it's definitely Heaven Alf! You must be spending a lot of time in these locations, otherwise your pictures can't be so well lit and colorful! Always right weather, right time of the day and year, right lighting...and kneeling is a matter of good will which you seem to have always! I shared this one on FB saying: ...that's a photographer, not me...and that's what I think!Best regards my friend!PDE Link to comment

yannik_hay 1 Posted December 5, 2011 You captured the essence of the scottish feel. The shutter speed for the water is perfect to my taste. This is how i like it.Yes you were lucky to catch the glow on the peak. Light can be quite fleeting over there.Lovely texture on the rocks.Cheers! Link to comment
alfbailey 3 Posted December 5, 2011 PIERRE Wow! you've blown me away with that one!We can agree on at least one thing, it is heaven, or at least my idea of heaven. We spent three days doing nothing other than eating, sleeping and taking photographs, with some time off for a little drink now and again too. We got lucky with the weather this time, very little in the way of rain, last time we were here it rained non stop for the duration, but even then we managed to get some nice moody shots from under our umbrella's. : - ) Then I suppose getting up early and going home late maximises the chances of the right light and conditions too. I just wish I could spend more time in these locations, even when I'm not taking photographs of it, just being there, seeing it and feeling it is enough, suffice to say I love it.Sincere thanks Pierre, you are very kind.AlfMARJOLEIN I count myself as being a very priviledged human being, for simply being able to experience these places, of course it gets even better if I get lucky with or two photo's too. You are 100% right I do thoroughly enjoy my photographic escapades : - )Many Thanks Marjolein.AlfJAMIESplitting hairs, Splitting tree's, next could be "Splitting images" I think we could start a TV series with that : - )Humble apologies my friend, I haven't dug one out yet, but I will and process one with no changes convert to jpeg and re-size so it's "sendable" then you may get an idea of the lower vantage point I described.Best RegardsAlfPANAYOTISMany thanks for your interest and thoughtful feedback, much appreciated.Best RegardsAlfVOLKER Sincere Thanks!Best RegardsAlfYANNIKMany Thanks for your interest and well considered feedback. It's very gratifying to read that you feel I captured the "essence" of the place as that was my primary objective. The light was indeed fleeting, the wind was quite brisk and the clouds moving swiftly changing the light in but a few seconds, so I was very fortunate to get this one in between changing camera settings etc.Kind RegardsAlf Link to comment
newland 0 Posted December 5, 2011 WoW Alf what timing, just spot on my friend, and the light I just love, not a good shot but a great shot, you are an inspiring photographer Alf....regards Grant. Link to comment
