Hi Amy,

life can't have been that sombre & sinister!

For comparison I've added my computerized interpretation of this shopping scene, which may shed a wee bit more light on what really was going on during that dark stormy & rainy day in town...

That's my two cents.

cheers

Sam

Thanks, Sam. I appreciate your stopping by and critiquing. I do certainly seem to have a weakness for the low-key. :-)

Hi Amy,

I like both versions of the image. Your presentation and Sam's presentation both appear like what I see here in South Florida. One would be more toward the evening and the other when the Sun is trying to shine through.

Technically, I would not stop down your fine lens to F/11. This forced ISO 400 and an exposure of 1/15 second.

I would have set my ISO down to 100 or 200 , and the lens to the  F/2 to F/5.6 range, where it offers the highest performance levels. The exposure would track accordingly.

Best Regards,  Mike

Personally I quite like the dark moody rainy day atmosphere of the orginal and whilst I can appreciate some of the detail to the left of the image revealed in Sams version, I think that to the right it loses some of that moody atmosphere. Just one small suggestion is to selectively lighten the umbrella slightly to draw attention to the main protagonists, but don't lose the mood, I think thats where its strength emerges from.

Best Regards

Alf, thanks for looking and commenting. I think lightening the umbrella is an excellent idea. I will give it a shot.

There's something about your photos.  Keep shooting, so that the reality meets your artistic vision.   You bring thought and emotion to your photography.  Keep shooting and you will finally get what you are trying to capture.

Well, you have going like gangbusters since last I passed this way.  You don't need my encouragement.  Whatever you have is coming from inside.

You know, I like the darker version.  It is true that the world only looks like that during a hard rain at deep dusk, but that does happen from time to time.

I have a proclivity for dark treatments, and I am typically being scolded for it.
