john_schutt 0 Posted April 20, 2001 O.K. You wrote "please please" so I'll bite. I hope that my comments are constructive and helpful. 1. Flowers often look best when they are shot on an overcast day. The problem with shooting in the sun is that the contrast is too high. Try shooting it when it's overcast. Or, use a diffuser or something to add a shadow. Of course, you might need an 81a filter to warm up the blue shadows. 2. Flower pictures are tougher than most people realize. You often need a "perfect" flower. See all the imperfections on this one? Ya gotta get a perfect one. Man, it's tough to find just the right one. 3. Your flower is dead centered. Compositions are often strongest when they are at the four "power points" once the screen has been divided into thirds. 4. I think that you either need to get a bunch closer (Yea. That's tough too.) or to use a wide angle and try to get a "field" of these flowers. 5. Do you want maximum sharpness? If so, then use a tripod if you didn't. Yup. It's tough to get flowers that aren't moving. Sometimes I'll wait and wait and wait . . . Early morning is a good time before the sun starts the wind moving. Link to comment
