KyleE 0 Posted October 17, 2011 Went down to the lake to capture a blue damselfly and ended up with a picture of this guy instead. Taken at 1:1 F11 shutter speed 1/250th with SB-900 flash. Link to comment
mike_palermiti 3 Posted October 23, 2011 Hi Kyle,Very good 1:1 shot.It is good that this subject remained in one place for the shot.I understand the F/11 for a flash at close distance, but when I have used a flash, I do not stop as far down to preserve more definition from the fine lens. I set the flash to a lower power output setting. A good diffuser helps a lot , too. This shot would have been possible to take at F/5.6 if your camera was to the upper left side looking at the subject more perpendicular to the plane of the lens. The DOF difference would be enough to have an higher definition outcome to this shot.Best Regards, Mike Link to comment
KyleE 0 Posted October 23, 2011 Mike,I was going to experiment with a couple of different views and angles on this guy as well as moving back and opening up further however as you guessed I was really lucky to get this one shot and with decent focus on the eyes too! He flew away after only 2 photos. I was disappointment for sure that I was not at a better angle with respect to his abdomen to get more of him in focus. Next time I will be better prepared when I do see one of these flies still for long enough for me to take a photo of it.Regards.Kyle Link to comment
