The photo is of my kids at the Rialto bridge in Venice. Idea behind

the shot was to utilize the natural light and make a contextual

portrait of the two. Without a tripod I set the ISO to 800, full

opening (f4) and 1/4 sec opening time. The only adjustments done to

the photo is cropping out the dark edges and adjusting the

temperature. I funny detail in it is the green light showing the

length of the exposure.

Given circumstances and choices with respect to shutter speed I think

this is not bad. What do you think?

Kind regards

Good try the composition is not bad but could have been better on this one. A tripod or other support would have definately helped in this situation. As it is, the subjects are slightly out of focus which takes away from the entire shot. If the kids were in focus and the background was slightly blurried it might have given the picture more impact.

Another no-no is that you cut off some hands and fingers towards the bottom of the picture. Also there is a slight greenish cast which I guess in this case was unavoidable, but maybe some post processing would have eliminated it.

Another no-no is that one of the subjects(the little girl)  is looking at who kows what instead of looking at the camera.

Tell you the truth I would have used a really slow aperture and the pop-up flash in this case, even if it looks artificial. The flash would have eliminated the green cast and improved the colors and the focusing.

You did a good job holding the camera at 1/4 second though...

Thanks for comments. Agree with most of what you write, especially about the hands and Dorthea´s eyes. Will try to use the fill in flash next time I face similar situation.

Kind regards
