WOW, Alf! This is incredibly beautiful.  Your composition, lighting, exposure, details and colors are superb. Love this! Deb

Alf, what works best for me in this truly engaging photograph are the rocks in the front because with the cloud reflections in this still water and the ethereal feel it creates, they appear almost to be floating on water and clouds, which is enchanting.  I don't know if it's as much as what generally works best -- something in the front of a watery scene or not -- but here it is delightful.  In you next pic -- the one without something in the front, I think it might disturb the peace.  These pics are exceptional.

DONNA

Sincere Thanks for your invaluable feedback, much appreciated. I think another possible explanation of the "floating rocks" or  at least a contributary factor, is the very shallow water that still reflect the clouds but allow a greater part of the rock to be above the water line. I was going to use a polarisor filter too, but I am now very pleased I forgot : - ) I'm really pleased you enjoyed viewing them Donna, the kind of fedback I've had from these photo's is a real bonus.

My sincere apologies for not visiting in quite a while.

To answer your question, the decision to include the rocks in the foreground was definitely the right call.  In my opinion, this transforms what otherwise might have been a pretty, but somewhat mundane landscape shot, into a much more interesting and spectacular one.

First, the reflections of these rocks gives the impression that they have been levitated and are floating above the water.  Secondly, they add quite a bit of perspective to the photograph.  In addition, I really love the subdued colors and detail.  They are responsible for my feeling calm and peaceful as soon as I beheld this scene.

Please know that your excellence in continuing to produce amazing landscape work is something to which I aspire.

My best,

michael

Its always good to hear from you no matter when or how often you visit!  I think the inclusion of the rocks is the popular vote, and I do like them myself.  The impression of them floating is something I didn't consider at all when I took the photograph, so I can't take any credit for that aspect of the image, but I think it is the very shallow water that leads to this impression. As for the peaceful atmosphere, well suffice to say it really was, there wasn't a ripple on the water, one of those mornings when it feels good to be alive!

Sincere thanks for your interest and thoughtful comments, they are very much appreciated.

Thanks for stopping by, I sometimes think that my PP is the one area of photography I wrestle with the most, I seem to agonise over every change I make to the RAW file, so its very gratifying to know that you think I got this one right.

Sincere Thanks for your inspirational words, I'm really pleased you like this one. It seems like this was the only morning of the year that we had flat calm weather, though I'm sure we must have had others, I just wasn't around to see them : - )

Cheers Sarah!

Many Thanks for your interest and kind words, I'm very pleased you liked this one. I visited this area just recently and the stones you can see were about 20ft from the water.

Best Regards
