An impressive stage set up for some real drama in the sky....I too like your down the middle composition as it focusses so strongly (amidst this ' advancing column ' of hay bales) on that impressive sky. It should come as no surprise to you that I also like Dror's square suggestion as it feels a bit less ' regimented '...  :-)   However, I would then surely keep a generous area of the FG visible (to show details & depth). Anyway, as I said, Alf, your approach here is strong -- & it sure has impact..!

Many thanks for your invaluable feedback and idea's. Dror is a great photographer and makes some excellent suggestions, I just hope he changes his mind about leaving PN! I see rectangles and you see squares : - ) but i guess thats what makes things more interesting, trying to see things as others do. Maybe theres room for two portraits, but alas no matter how I try the other possibilities, its landscape format that wins for me on this one. I'm pleased you can connect with the "impact" that was the kind of reaction I hoped to achieve, I wasn't quite sure if I'd overcooked it though.

I like this. I like this because  of the strong endless lines leading to the horizon. Well seen.  The dramatic clouds is a super contrast to the precise lines on the ground.

Anyway I like this shot the colors and tones are fantastic . Did you pay  the farmer to arrange the bales this way :)  your use of the straw and the use of the  straight lines of the stubble to draw the eye in to the  mean looking sky  works well

Very atmospheric work. You really do find some outstanding places to photograph. Love the moody sky and the fact you are being lead between the haybayles towards that sky! Wonderfully seen, captured and exposed!

I happened upon these scene quite by accident, I was looking for hay bales, but had been driving for about 2 hours and hadn't seen any that were accessible. Then I just happened to see the farmer collecting these together to load onto trailers. I guess if the farmer thought he could get away with it he would have charged me to photograph his field : - ) .......But seriously he was a very accomodating guy, and he let me wander around freely. I'm really pleased you liked this one Patrick.

I struggled to find this place, I had been driving for around the Shropshire countryside for over 2 hours and hadn't seen anything remotely interesting that had anything to do with Harvest. Most fields had been cut and it looked like I had missed the boat untill I came across this field. I was particularly fortunate that the hay bales were gathered together for loading

Sincere Thanks for your interest and positive feedback. I was very fortunate to happen upon this field just as the farmer was gathering the bales together prior to loading onto transport. I guess sometimes you just get lucky.

Alf I would not call it heavy handed, is it dark? yes, but it does the job very well and it does not clash with the ground at all. I love the crisp details and the saturated colors.
